That is a hell of a lot of trust to put a rookie in that spot. He did well too. Man I’m trying not to get excited about this dude bc it’s only been 2 games, but he looked good.

The 20 and the 40 are two very different things.

4th and 5 vs. 4th and 13 are also about a mile apart situationally.

great idea to replace a LB with a CB so the Vikings can line up and run all over the nickel package

the Chiefs don't have a legit a fix for this right now....you can either:

sub a CB in for a LB

switch responsibilities in the nickel, and now you have a LB on a WR

it's going to be on spags to guess if the other team is going 5 wide when they have a RB and FB on the field

we just don't have a lot of versatility at LB right now

Prior to the season I would have wanted to see the biggest improvement in three areas on that list in order:

Points allowed
yards per rush allowed
3rd down defense

We’ve improved in 2 of the 3. The yards per rush allowed is still very concerning as it keeps Mahomes off the field.

Yards/rush isn't going to move much even if our defense holds the next 3-4 teams below their averages, simply because 5 out 6 weeks we allowed significantly greater than our opponents' averages. Except the Ravens, but their average was 205/yards per game, so holding them to 200 doesn't help much.

But if they can consistently hold say 5 of the next 6 teams significantly below their average, that number should come down.

Here's the thing though: in the last two games our defense has actually gotten some stops, and significantly more stops per game than in the previous 6 games. And they did that by being pretty effective stopping the run.

I will say that I do like that it looks like we're starting to me more aggressive with our blitzes. Our 4 man rushes suck so we need those blitzes to get pressure.
