Why Berry has been day-to-day for three months.

Berry was said to have a condition a specialized shoe could fix.

He hasn’t undergone surgery, even though if he had done it off the bat, he could have returned by playoff time.

He has been described as “literally day to day” for 70 days.

He could have been placed on IR and brought back, the team has instead opted to use a roster spot on him.

What is going on?

Poll forthcoming.

I think it's more frustration with giving the same answer to the same question every week and he has better things to do with his time. He has no control when Berry comes back nor does the team but he's the one that gets asked every week because he's required to do press conferences and Berry isn't.

At this point in time what needs to happen is allow/make Berry appear at a news conference and give his side of the story. The answers he gives may not be to everybody's liking but at least the mystery could be erased. Letting us know what's going on would go a long way to easing the frustration.

I think the plan is cortisone injections. Can probably only do twice and duration of effectiveness varies.

They figured by week 5 we'd need him badly. But here we are, killing shit, so they've now decided to push his return later and later.

Eventually he will come back, and based off how good the team is it'll be a couple weeks prior to the playoffs just to get him in the zone.

If you listen to what coaches and owner are saying, they continuously point to "good communication" and "when HE FEELS ready."

I think it is abundantly clear that the Chiefs have cleared him to play, and his personal doctor has not.

I've asked this a zillion times on here:

If getting surgery to permanently fix it only takes 8 weeks of recovery, why didn't they just do the surgery flat out as soon as they came up with this bone spur diagnosis? What benefit does NOT getting the surgery do Berry (or the team, for that matter?)

Like, let's say it heals on its own without the surgery. I can't ****ing wait for it to act up again NEXT season, too!

The solution was there all along. It would have fixed the problem. It's possible the recovery time is quicker without the surgery, but it's also possible it becomes LONGER (like it is now).

And now what? We're stuck with "Do we cut our losses and have him get it now?" or we keep staying the course with the possibility he won't play a single ****ing down all goddamn season.

The surgery can be recovered that fast but I think it can also be where they have to cut the Achilles

Which is a long recovery obviously

That's the way I understand it - the Achilles tendon has to be detached and then surgically re-attached after the spur is shaved down.

Given Berry's Achilles history, I could completely understand why he wouldn't want them to cut on it.

Then he can ****ing retire with an injury settlement where he gives a lot of money back to the team. If he wants to keep getting paid he gets the operation and finds a way to actually earn his money. He should have taken care of this shit a year ago when he was already out, this shit didn't just pop up. He hasn't upheld his duty to the team to have his body ready to perform the duties required of a player earning $15 million a year.

Him retiring is just as bad on the cap as cutting him. They COULD recover part of his pro-rated signing bonus but that's not gonna help the cap a whole lot.

Well it's not ideal, but he's basically going to be $16 million in dead money next year anyways if he's still not playing, and I don't see how we don't avoid the exact same thing happening (i.e. he's day to day all year) unless he actually has surgery. At least with a retirement or release we can designate him a post June 1st release and spread the hit out. We already have almost $19 million in dead money this year, so taking a hit from his contract isn't a killer. Unless he can guarantee he'll be back 💯 we simply can't keep a guy set to make around $16 million next ye. The Chiefs are not a charity.
