Berry was said to have a condition a specialized shoe could fix.

He hasn’t undergone surgery, even though if he had done it off the bat, he could have returned by playoff time.

He has been described as “literally day to day” for 70 days.

He could have been placed on IR and brought back, the team has instead opted to use a roster spot on him.

What is going on?

The thing is 3 months rest IS enough. He's good right now. But whenever he gets to playing it will flare back up again. This is why his return is being pushed back. Yeah he can play right now, but he won't be as good for the playoffs with the accumulation of wear and tear from 8 NFL games. They are saving the best version of Berry they can possibly get given their current situation for what matters most: the post-season.

This is why I don't see the point in dogging Berry for this. The entire thing is collective. Both the team and Berry are on the same page and some fans need to realize this. Just be patient and wait for the playoffs. A SB win in Atlanta will be well worth it.

I'm not sure that's the case since he isn't even participating in practice. At some point he'll have to practice, just to knock the rust off. Then we can talk about playing.

I feel like Iconic is as close to the truth with his posts as any other theory out there. The absolute earliest we will see him will be after the bye, provided we don't tank games between now and then.

And isn't Berry from Atlanta? You think that might be a little bit of an explanation why they haven't shut him down completely for '18, just in case we really do get there?

Eric Berry has his own doctors and they are telling him not to play. That's why Andy Reid says in every interview that Eric Berry knows his body better than the Chiefs do and he'll let them know when he's ready.

My biggest issue with all of this is how the hell did they not know about and operate on the deformity way before the season ever started? He has had issues with this heel before, has he not? Someone clearly dropped the ball by either knowing about the issue and not operating on it in the offseason (or during the season last year since he was already out) or by not having the idea to inspect the heel that was giving him trouble further.

Actually, I think they're trying to treat it with ultra sound therapy, which takes some time to be effective.

I think what has caught people off guard is that Reid sounds more confused than he does confident. For a man who loves coach speak, he sounds almost to the point of frustration that he has no idea. He doesn't sound like a guy who has any confidence whatsoever in when berry can and should come back.

Excellent. Pay him millions to do nothing, then treat him with voodoo therapy. Ultrasound therapy “takes some time” to be effective because it does -nothing-. Placebos often take about as much time as the body does to heal itself without any therapy.
