Alex Smith expresses his desire to return to Chiefs in 2018

GO AWAY YOU ****ING LOSER. LEAVE NOW AND NEVER COME BACK.

Alex Smith expresses his desire to return to Chiefs in 2018

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs' season ended earlier than they anticipated.

The No. 4 seed in the AFC coughed up an 18-point lead in a 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, setting up an offseason of uncertainty.

Chief among that will be quarterback Alex Smith.

Despite leading Kansas City to a 10-6 record and AFC West title, the Chiefs are said to be open to trading the veteran pivot. The team set up its future by trading up in April's draft to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Smith has just one year left on his four-year, $68-million contract, and intends to see it through.

"Yeah, I mean, you kidding me? I signed the contract," Smith said when asked after the game if he'd like to stay in Kansas City
, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.

"I'm under contract for another year, so like I said, I'm not thinking about anything else. Right now, obviously disappointed. Like I said, I felt like we had a good chance, and it's gone."

Under Smith's direction, the Chiefs raced out to a 5-0 start to the season, hit a lull in which they lost six of their next seven games, then won their final four contests.

On Saturday, Smith threw two first-half touchdowns to give Kansas City a 21-3 cushion, but went 5 of 10 for 33 yards in the second half.

The 13-year veteran wasn't prepared to dive further into his future so soon after the loss.

"The game just ended," Smith said. "We'll get into all of that in the next couple of weeks."

Do they think that they have the answer to why that player didn't get it done on his previous team, it's going to turn the franchise around and bring back the fans?

I'm serious, why do teams do this? It's like buying something from someone that you know is going to be putting it on the curb the next day.

Why? It makes no sense to me. Is it because I'm just a fan and not an expert football mind? Just show me the logic in it. All I've seen from it is wasting time while other players prime is used up.
If there's one and only one team interested...they wouldn't. But if there's more than one, and they want to make sure they get their guy.....the. they pony up

Not hard...

If they let the guy go open market, they risk him going to another team. We gave two seconds for Alex KNOWING we was.gpnna be cut...

I don't look at the chiefs as a TV show with my favorite character 'Alex' who I become obsessed with and care what happens to him after he leaves the ****ing show.

I think of them as a sports team who I support in improving the team as a whole and trying to.build upon. If a guy leaves , I.wish him.well and move on with my life...even if I like that player ... (jamaal etc)

Yes, your way of 'team Alex' and abandoning teams to follow around one guy...and looking at it as he is the star of your favorite teen drama is extremely creepy and dipshitty

Okay, I get it. I'm basing it on a Chiefs fan point of view. I never have understood why the Chiefs are willing to give away draft picks so evidently the reason is they wanted to be sure they got someone that no one else wanted?

Yup, because Chiefs for sure!

The generalized answer is that, players aren't always cut for a pure inability to perform.

They may not fit a scheme.
They may be on the short end of a glut of talent for a particullar position for a particular team.
They may have a contract that it hampering other moves the team with rights wish to make.
They may have a personality clash, or a locker room chemistry mismatch.

Making a trade while a player is still under contract avoids the player hitting an open market, where you are competing with all the other teams except the team cutting him.

This is just a ferinstance, but suppose the Patriots had Mahomes, only he was in year 4 of his rookie contract and Brady was insisting he was nowhere near quitting. Heck, suppose they still had Garrappalo as well.

Mahomes may be a luxury that the Patriots cannot afford at the moment, but that doesn't mean he has no talent, or no value in the league. Would you be bemused if the Chiefs spent a draft pick to acquire the rights to him before he hit the open market?

Terrible weekend for the Chiefs.

Bortles played well enough to get another year with the Jags.
Keenum played well enough to get a chance with someone
Sutton is staying
Nagy is gone
Another placeholder at OC which means that Reid is calling plays again next year

Next year is the SOS unless Mahomes is superman and does whatever he wants in terms of playcalling.
