Alex Smith expresses his desire to return to Chiefs in 2018

GO AWAY YOU ****ING LOSER. LEAVE NOW AND NEVER COME BACK.

Alex Smith expresses his desire to return to Chiefs in 2018

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs' season ended earlier than they anticipated.

The No. 4 seed in the AFC coughed up an 18-point lead in a 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, setting up an offseason of uncertainty.

Chief among that will be quarterback Alex Smith.

Despite leading Kansas City to a 10-6 record and AFC West title, the Chiefs are said to be open to trading the veteran pivot. The team set up its future by trading up in April's draft to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Smith has just one year left on his four-year, $68-million contract, and intends to see it through.

"Yeah, I mean, you kidding me? I signed the contract," Smith said when asked after the game if he'd like to stay in Kansas City
, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.

"I'm under contract for another year, so like I said, I'm not thinking about anything else. Right now, obviously disappointed. Like I said, I felt like we had a good chance, and it's gone."

Under Smith's direction, the Chiefs raced out to a 5-0 start to the season, hit a lull in which they lost six of their next seven games, then won their final four contests.

On Saturday, Smith threw two first-half touchdowns to give Kansas City a 21-3 cushion, but went 5 of 10 for 33 yards in the second half.

The 13-year veteran wasn't prepared to dive further into his future so soon after the loss.

"The game just ended," Smith said. "We'll get into all of that in the next couple of weeks."

Intriguing free agent talent at WR, TE and respectable backup qb market.

Atrocious defensive free agent class unless you break the bank for a Trumaine Johnson at corner or overpay for Ziggy Ansah who is always banged up.

Have to believe that Berry will fix some of our secondary woes. Need a pass rusher and a run stopping DL.

Lot of question marks. This is why you pay Veach though. He seems like a pretty aggressive GM so far, and he needs to replace a large chunk of the roster so... we'll see what he can find.

Watching the Jags today it occurred to me that if they had A Smith, they may well easily win the Super Bowl. All they need is a competent game manager and they would be scary. I think Smith is a problem but not the Chiefs top problem. I truly think as long as Reid coaches, he will always coach teams to be perennial playoff contenders but never going any further. I also think Chiefs need one more solid WR similar to a (gulp) Crabtree that gives Alex one more set of hands. After Kelce went down, the passing game options were diminished a great deal because the Titans could focus on the run and double Hill. Yesterday showed more than ever we were one dependable WR short.....Here`s my list in order:
Problem number 1.........Reid
#2........need one more dependable WR

after that it is debatable what or who comes next

He could always trade alex smith for players instead of draft picks too.

Smith could stay and they would only need to have him restructure to offset dead money to provide cap room.

Smith didn't win shit with a stacked defense in San Francisco, why would Jacksonville be any different?

The Chiefs don't need new receivers. They need a QB who can do more with less. Alex already has a pro bowl RB, TE, and Tyreek should be a pro bowl WR. If the solution is adding yet another option, then maybe we're revolving our personnel around the wrong guy. We saw what PMIII did with Albert Wilson and Demetrius Harris. Mahomes is going to throw guys open, while Alex Smith takes the safe "wide open" option. But regardless... the best way to fix this team is to balance with better defense. Regardless of your view on Alex Smith, saving $17M goes a very long way to upgrading our defense.

Alex Smith isn't going to lead an offense. He needs to manage games which means building an elite defense. So you're right that he has a better shot to do that elsewhere. I don't see Alex Smith doing that in KC - you either have to load him up with a ton of offensive talent or make the defense elite. Not ideal. To your point about Reid... I agree he's a problem, so you need a QB who can cover up the coach's mistakes. Smith & Reid are a bad match because Smith enables Reid in the wrong ways. Reid needs a QB who will put teams away, not a game manager who exposes the worst parts of Andy Reid.

The only way that's happening is if the Chiefs extend his contract multiple years. They ain't doing that considering what they gave up for PMIII. Whether you like it or not, unless the Chiefs decide to eat his $20M in 2018, a trade is in the best interest of both KC and Alex Smith.

Reid and Smith were perfect for what the Chiefs needed in 2013, coming off of one of the worst seasons in history. Smith's replacement has been drafted and it's time to move on. He had his day in the sun and fulfilled the prophecy of delivering a PO win to KC. Now it's time for Mahomes to fulfill a new prophecy to KC- a 2nd SB ring.

Which is better than what his predecessors were.

The chiefs had won a division title just two years prior to smith. It was a talented team already that just lacked proper coaching. Andy Reid provided that stability and smith just happened to be the QB. Reid was even able to win a game with nick foles. Alex smith has always vultured off having great teams with great defenses. He wasted the niners and chiefs greatest teams.

You mean the year Harbaugh stayed with Krapernick after Smith recovered after getting hurt? Then Krapernick crapped the bed in the Super Bowl? Many niner fans believe that was a bad move by Harbaugh that year,,,,,,Smith was winning when he played, just saying. As far as Jacksonville, did you see Bortles today? They won in spite of his play. Imagine if they had a QB even just a little better. Bortles ran one more yard than he threw today I believe......

But again, just my opinion. I dont give a crap either way because I have no control over anything. We can disagree and that`s perfectly OK....

I cant disagree with you but I still believe this exact team, with a better strategic post season coach would still be playing next week. I`m just saying IMO Smith isnt the number 1 problem....
