Alex Smith expresses his desire to return to Chiefs in 2018

GO AWAY YOU ****ING LOSER. LEAVE NOW AND NEVER COME BACK.

Alex Smith expresses his desire to return to Chiefs in 2018

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs' season ended earlier than they anticipated.

The No. 4 seed in the AFC coughed up an 18-point lead in a 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, setting up an offseason of uncertainty.

Chief among that will be quarterback Alex Smith.

Despite leading Kansas City to a 10-6 record and AFC West title, the Chiefs are said to be open to trading the veteran pivot. The team set up its future by trading up in April's draft to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Smith has just one year left on his four-year, $68-million contract, and intends to see it through.

"Yeah, I mean, you kidding me? I signed the contract," Smith said when asked after the game if he'd like to stay in Kansas City
, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.

"I'm under contract for another year, so like I said, I'm not thinking about anything else. Right now, obviously disappointed. Like I said, I felt like we had a good chance, and it's gone."

Under Smith's direction, the Chiefs raced out to a 5-0 start to the season, hit a lull in which they lost six of their next seven games, then won their final four contests.

On Saturday, Smith threw two first-half touchdowns to give Kansas City a 21-3 cushion, but went 5 of 10 for 33 yards in the second half.

The 13-year veteran wasn't prepared to dive further into his future so soon after the loss.

"The game just ended," Smith said. "We'll get into all of that in the next couple of weeks."

30M to play with to add a couple mid to high end fat guys and or a nice CB opposite of 22.

This team will be more well rounded when they arent paying players top dollar 5 years past their prime.
Pugs said the GM will kick ass in the offseason and they will be a really good team in 2018. I don't think 9 wins is a really good team. That's barely above .500 record.

Eric Berry... even if he isn’t at full strength is an instant upgrade over Sorensen, which is an immediate improvement to the defense before any other moves are made.

EB is the x-factor. Shuts down TEs unlike any safety can. Ultimate leader.

Not for that price but if he'd play for a million, I'd keep him as a backup.

He was agreeing with my comment, I thought you were directing that at my comment as well. I did say at least 9 wins. It is not over the top to think this team will be better than last year just by getting Berry healthy replacing the aging under achievers with able bodied guys in the trenches.

That requires adding years to his contract.

If you cut him He is already going to count for 2.5M against the cap. If they resign him he will be paid 2.5M plus whatever his new contract is.

DJs time here is done, just like Hali, and Jamaal. I love the guys too, but when you gotta let go, you gotta let go man.

I homered out quite a bit there, I know. But I do believe they can be really good in '18. They just have to make good, sensible moves. The pieces are already in place on offense for the most part to be an elite unit. The defense is not completely talentless itself. I think the majority of their problems are tied to scheme.

Don't get me wrong, Smith was the right QB at the time to bring this franchise immediate respectability. When your QB stable features such stalwarts as Cassel, Quinn, Stanzi, and the never to be remembered Alex Tanney , the draft class featured such luminaries as Manuel, Barkley, Glennon, and fan fav Geno, you take the chance on A. Smith. And it worked, sort of. You can't deny 5 straight winning seasons. But you also can't deny a playoff record of 1-4. It's like being the Homecoming King and the Queen is your cousin who's trans.
Nope, it's time to move on. It does absolutely no good to keep Smith next year. Regardless whether we trade him or cut him, we have $20M in our pocket to upgrade our D and LG. Mahomes isn't going to learn anything more sitting on the bench. I'm sure he'll throw away a couple games next year and we might even have a losing season. But I'm awfully tired of seeing games pissed away because we don't move the chains in the 2nd half.

I think the offense can be dangerous with Mahomes. Add another TE or WR threat to take a bit of pressure off Kelce/Hill and lookout. Ware coming back will also help the run game.

I disagree with you on the defense though. They are soft. No tacklers at any level save for Ragland and Berry. Can we count on Berry to be available? Will there be competence opposite Houston? Will Peters check out with effort when the team inevitably loses some games? Will speed be addressed at the safety spots? Will the d-line be stout enough to get pressure with four?

Scheme and personnel are major issues for this team that I can’t see getting fixed overnight. A respected coordinator who can get the players to sell out is needed. I don’t think Sutton is that guy, and I also don’t know who should be the next guy - he needs to be a proper talent evaluator, motivater and tactician who can adjust to opponents. I hope Reid can find another Jim Johnson, and soon....

I agree with all of that. If we don't replace Sutton, I won't have confidence in seeing the defense turn around. I do however think that they can fix the majority of the personnel issues though with the cap space and draft picks, given that they shouldn't need to do much with the offense.

I think Tanoh showed a little promise. He was a bigger project than 15 was, coming from a dump college. Ragland may turn out to be one of the biggest steals this team has pulled off.

This team needs to invest in the Dline and safety positions hard.
