In a game the Chiefs lost by six points, Alex Smith missed three wide open TDs

And yes he had a clean pocket on the second one.

When has this happened before...against the Steelers...in a crucial game....

Spoiler!

Flame away.

I wouldnt say strongly against, although I agree with you that its not a guarantee. I would say around 50/50...but also you kind of have to adjust that for what we have seen during the off season...and say probably 60/40 or more just based on how good he looked in pre-season.

You're just cherry picking and making an incorrect generalization. You intentioally left off the successful QB's drafted out of the top few picks...Over half of the starters come from outside the top 10. Mahomes is more than just a random draft pick at this point ...he has had a whole off season and now almost a half of a regular season to learn and grow....

Actually this is the lie. Even when Alex "regressed" on Sunday, he was still at least taking shots down the field when previously he absolutely refused. Teams have bad games, players have bad games, coaches have bad games, and unfortunately for the chiefs, all three played hideously on the same day and yet the Chiefs lost by 6 ......... the delusion on this board is astounding sometimes.

Blake Bortles (3rd) -- career 14-40 record
Blaine Gabbert (Rd 1, 10th) -- career back up
Jake Locker (Rd1, 8th) -- out of the league
Ryan Tannehill (Rd1, 8th) -- solid NFL starter but with only 1 winning season
EJ Manuel (16th) -- career back up
Johnny Manziel -- enough said

The odds are strongly against Mahomes having success. And that holds true even for some of the guys taken in the first two picks..like Robert Griffin III. Every fan should be hopeful that he'll beat the odds, but to call for sitting a two time PB Q who has one of the best records in the league (even if he is flawed) in favor of Mahomes in the belief that Mahomes will do better than Smith...it's just silly fanboy nonsense and I'm saying nothing remarkable by pointing it out.

how many people pulled out of the game for that to happen again? Stop, please stop.

Nice fanboy response! Of course, Mahomes is going to do all the positive things Smith does and none of the negatives.

You are exactly saying nothing because literally no one serious is calling for smith to be benched. I mean who? SDH? The guy is funny and entertaining but even he himself would not refer to him as a serious poster....youre gonna take one guy's inflammatory / comedian opinion and make it representative of a huge group of people? Lame.

Youre creating a straw man who you then beat up on....which you are correct, is a nothing argument.

Funny...no matter how many guys pulled out, I don't see Bortles, Tannehill, Gabbert, Manziel, Manuel....or any other of those mid-first round picks with PB recognition. Keep it up...you're just showing your fanboyism!

With your dumb logic, the packers and Patriots would win every single game in a blowout. Yet the Pats are a bullshit call from being 3-3 despite playing in the worst division in football. And I'll state again. Aaron Rodgers on a team that was in the nfccg the year before went 6-10 his first year. Now if you are delusional enough to think that Mahomes would be better than Rodgers with LESS around him than Aaron Rodgers had then, and you honestly feel Andy Reid would sacrifice a super bowl run just to appease schmucks like you, dm me because I have a bridge to sell you. Mahomes was NOT DRAFTED TO START THIS YEAR, and 1 quasi mediocre performance from a qb who has been playing at an MVP level isn't going to change Andys mind. So build a bridge and get the **** over it.

Which is what exactly for a qb that has thrown 12 tds no picks, leads the league in ypa, completion percentage and passer rating?

Actually, I didn't cherry pick anything. I picked all first rounders going back six years. Your response proves the point. Setting aside the consensus 1-2 type picks at QB, the track record of players who pro scouts deemed worthy to take in the first round is abysmal. Guess what Mahomes was not taken with the 1-2 picks. He has flaws. Does that mean he will not be successful?
Of course not. Brady will probably go down as the GOAT, and he was what, 6th round? Montana, 3rd round? The point remains that those who want to throw Smith on the scrap heap (which may not be you, but there are plenty on this thread espousing this position) in favor of an unproven Mahomes are just silly. The idea that a rookie QB will bring all of Smith's best qualities, and none of his negative qualities, is just fanboy crazy.

there are pros and cons to everything

many people feel that mahomes' ceiling is higher than Alex's ... is that reasonable? Sure...

Many people feel Alex can win a suberbowl this season....so he should be the starter...Is that reasonable? Sure.

only time will tell who is 'correct' here....In my mind here is how I view this:

MOST people, I would say 90% of all of us..agree that:

Alex Smith should be the starter right now...because with him we have some degree (let's call it x%) higher chance to go farther in the playoffs / superbowl.

also I think most people agree that:

Pat Mahomes, while not ready right now....has a higher ceiling and the potential to be a great QB...the QBOTF

so , as far as 'big picture' we are all in agreement....., well if not all, i think the VAST majority of us.

So, then the key disagreement comes from the critical question: At what point do we start Mahomes?

I would say since we already established that no one reasonable is saying to start mahomes now, we actually already agree on this question too. In my mind we go back and look at the X%. As soon as that x% goes to zero (or into the negative obviously) or close to zero, you have to start Mahomes. It really is that simple, and I truly think thats how most people look at it.
