In a game the Chiefs lost by six points, Alex Smith missed three wide open TDs

And yes he had a clean pocket on the second one.

When has this happened before...against the Steelers...in a crucial game....

Spoiler!

Flame away.

I would normally be hammering on Alex, but not this time.

Alex didn't have a good game, but he didn't have an abortion, either. An abortion would be 3-4 INTS. The rest of the team played like absolute shit, and even Montana or Brady can't carry their teams when it gets as bad as it did yesterday.

I also know that we got lucky with Pitt. It should have been a blowout early, but Haley sabotaged his team by trying to pass the ball in the redzone when there was no reason to. The defense should not get a pass for Pittsburgh's coordinator going full reerun.

All in all, we knew the team was going to lose, yet they still had a chance to win with quite a few breaks. Alex missed some passes, especially the back-breaker to a wide open Robinson in the endzone, but he isn't the reason the Chiefs lost.

I recall Alex making some AMAZING plays to help this team to 5-0. He isn't the only reason they won the games, but he made pivotal plays in these games that were essential to winning.

Chill the **** out, Alex isn't perfect, but he certainly isn't the reason they lost yesterday.

They couldn't overcome a 12-3 deficit at home? Please, stop. KC was in the game ALL DAY. Clearly we let Leveon get his and not let Pitt get those explosive plays downfield. They didn't give up many points, it worked but Alex pissed down his leg.

The defense was gashed for most of the day, but when it counted, they were essentially able to get off the field. The offense had two productive drives all game...both late in the 2nd half.

It’s not a great defense, but it is a defense that will limit points. Had the offense produced just one decent drive in the first half, they likely would have taken the lead going into the half (the missed Robinson play comes to mind). They stay on the field just for 3 or 4 first downs, that take TOP away from Pitt. But, the offense was as bad as I’ve seen it since the Cassel days. Almost as inept as that year we didn’t make a first down against Indy in the playoffs.

Hard to put blame on one single person but the QB position is magnified because they handle the ball on every possession. And when you miss guys by as much as Alex was missing, it looks bad. Part of it is because he never looked in Robinson’s direction. He locked in on guys. He does that when he gets nervous. That said, even had he tossed the ball in Robinson’s direction, his throws were so off today that I don’t think he would have hit any of them.

The offense, overall, wasn’t good enough.

Coincidence that Robinson was in, and suddenly Smith is inaccurate? Just not sure I can buy that, until someone definitively proves it.

One of my big fears with this game was the lack of seasoning for the WRs. A target that runs a poor, inaccurate route can make any QB's accuracy look suspect. I don't know if this was the true issue.. but I don't know that it wasn't.

... and most QBs will fail when their RB nets 21 total yds, and receiving targets are dropping passes.

This really isn't complicated.

Ben had ALL day on most throws. Alex did not.

Bell ran ALL over the opposing D. Kareem could not.

Domination in the trenches ALL game long.

You're going to lose this game 9 out of 10 times.
WHAT?

robinson was so wide open on that missed TD my 4 year old could have made the throw. it was innaccurate.

I'm just spitballing but their dl just abuses our OL. I think he gets beat up and his clock speeds up a bit.

Yesterday is understandable with 3 backup interior OL playing but **** it seems like the steeler d just confuses the chiefs and physically beats them up

You are right. That's probably it.

Let's just hope, when they play the Steelers again, that the Oline is healthy.

Last sentence is true so far. I still don't think people can appreciate how a WR running their route two steps short can make every throw look like an overthrow. Alex was looking LEFT to throw coverage off of Robinson. He had to look back right and fire it.

Who can definitively say that Robinson did not shorten his route a step or two? If he did.. Smith wouldn't have known it, as he.. again... was looking left to throw coverage off.

I'm just saying it's possible... and makes a lot more sense than claiming for certain that Smith suddenly has no accuracy.

It's not rocket science, actually.

As soon as I saw this hit I thought Smith was going to fold like a cheap tent:

Sure enough...he was off all game after that.

He's a pussy.

Alex was overthrowing all game Sandy. He was panicking due to pressure even when it wasn't there.

Can't blame him, but it did happen.
