In a game the Chiefs lost by six points, Alex Smith missed three wide open TDs

And yes he had a clean pocket on the second one.

When has this happened before...against the Steelers...in a crucial game....

Spoiler!

Flame away.

yes of course TOP matters, i agree with you it is vital most of the time....unless youre scoring quickly

when you do not get 1st downs and you only have like 50 total yards and you have negative rushing yards for most of the game you cannot pin the TOP on the defense

in the games we won, our offense got 1st downs.....we didnt in this game. period.

we had literally one TD drive.

they werent even scoring that much on us..we got the bal back 12 times man..their offense only scored 17 points....

You said that the defense being on the field tired out the other offense and makes them perform worse.

If that is the case, then why is the Chiefs offense so successful in the 4th quarter? They lead the league in 4th quarter scoring despite having the second highest TOP.

If your claim that the Chiefs D wore down the Steelers is true, why wouldn't the other D's the Chiefs have faced this year wear down the Chiefs O? How is it that the Chiefs score more than any other team in football in the 4th with an offense that is on the field so often, but the act of being on the field so often is what helped wear down Pittsburgh?

How can these two things coexist?

Then how did the Chiefs D cause Pittsburgh to, in your words, "punch itself out" if TOP is so vital?

How is an offense that punched itself out still moving the ball at the same rate?

were they?

if we look at the drives and they were moving the ball less effectively in the second half, barring the one fluke TD drive off of the facemask...

would you change your mind at all or would i be wasting my time in this convo?

absolutely no offense except off of the muffed free kick in the 1st half..and you blame the defense for the time of possesion when they literally had one TD drive in an entire game filled with short and unproductive drives, and the offense scored 11 points

amazing
The offense had some of CP's usuals heads up all their asses, so it was hard to move!

The defense did little to help the offense outside of keeping the score low. They consistently allowed the Steelers to drive the field, scoring or not. We had them pinned deep twice and immediately allowed them big plays to get out of their own end zone. They did little to help an injury plagued offense as far as opportunities and field position. The offense didn't help themselves at all. A lot of that was because of the early, conservative play calling. But the Safety right out of the gate didn't help. However, you can't allow a RB to run for 7+ yards a carry then say you did your job.

Sutton has issues with this defense. He is either covering up problems or, imo, trying to defend against everything every play. 1st and 10 on the Steelers 1 yard line and you have Houston dropping 25+ yards down field instead of rushing a very immobile QB.

The defense sucked today. The offense sucked today. Smith missed a couple passes he has consistently hit this year. I also don't understand Reid not challenging the call in the end zone with Travis. He had possession with 2 feet down. That should have been TD right there. At worse you lose a TO. Instead you not only got 0 points, the first play the Steelers ran the defense let Bell break one for 20+ yards.

what is more important, for a defense, than keeping the score low if you do not mind my asking?

isnt keeping the score low kind of important?

Consistently putting your offense in difficult position, i.e., long fields, when they are missing a lot of starters is not helping your offense at all. Keeping the score low is important. But so is winning the game of field position and time of possession.

so getting no 1st downs and having negative rushing yards...3 points in the 1st half. (that came off of a muffed kick, not even a full drive)..none of that affected anything?

the defense did ENOUGH. period. full stop.

they couldve done better, but 17 points in 2017 is below average

we scored 11 net points on offense, unless you think we should hold teams to under 11 points every game..and if u subtract the 3 from the muffed kick really thats 8 points the offense should be credited with (10-2)

do the math
