MELLINGER: Should The Chiefs Move On From Smith?

Yep, another Alex Smith thread - but a solid and fair read from Sam Mellinger.

Quote:
The only way forward is through brutal honesty and realistic self-evaluation. No sport moves as quickly, or with such little empathy, as the NFL.

Only fools assume what happened in the past will continue to happen in the future, unless that assumption is “the Patriots will win every year from now until armageddon because Bill Belichick is an alien.”

And so it is that this particular group of Chiefs players and executives attempt to solve a puzzle that no group of Chiefs players and executives has solved since 1970, which is so long ago CBS erased the tape to save money:

Get to the Super Bowl.

And it’s hard to believe that will happen without addressing the quarterback situation.

This is not a call for the Chiefs to walk away from Alex Smith, even though this is the first offseason since his arrival in which they could do it without a fatal salary cap hit. This is a call for them to look, to try, to make sure they don’t have access to a better option — whether that’s Tony Romo in a trade, Deshaun Watson in the draft (which would almost certainly require a trade up), or anything else.

That Tebow Bronco playoff win against Big Ben and the #1 D was way more impressive than the Texans Hoyer win

When I said they had no defense I meant in that game, hence a "defensive team with no defense". They were depleted with injuries/aging players. The Tebow led Broncos scored 29. Did you even ****ing watch that game?

So Roethlisberger's regular season stats matter, but Pitt's defensive ranking doesn't.

Cherry picking m'fer.

Nothing changed with Roethlisberger from the regular season to the playoffs.

A lot changed with that defense.

Shut the **** up.

You can't honestly think a playoff win against Hoyer and a Texans team that didn't show for the game is more impressive than an OT win behind 300 yards and 2 touchdowns from Tim Tebow against Big Ben and the #1 defense that had won multiple SBs.

What are you trying to say exactly?

I don't see the point of this post. A playoff WC win is just that a playoff WC win which one was more 'impressive' doesn't really matter.

Yeah, I don't really get the point of any Chiefs' fan flexing nuts on this. I really could care less which win was more impressive. I care about which win was more meaningful. No matter how bad the Texans were, this is exactly the type of game the Chiefs always frustratingly lose in the playoffs. This is exactly the type of game the Bengals lose every single year in the playoffs. The Broncos don't have the history the Chiefs have of playoff disappointment.

It is a huge weight off the franchise to not have to worry about the drought. If you don't believe that, talk to any Bengals fan.

Its time we go ahead and start winning consistanly in the playoffs... We love to flex our regular season dick and throw around the win/loss record of Alex and Andy...

But its time we start worrying about winning when it matters and stop getting pounded like a $3 hooker...

1-3 is kinda sad considering we spout off about winning meaningless games...

Beating the Texans with Hoyer is like losing your virginity by paying a hooker. Sure it counts and feels good but it's still not the best way to go about it.

Big Ben wasn't injured so badly he shouldn't have played. Clearly his injury had 0 effect on the outcome of that one....

You disregard a blowout win against a playoff team by using the Hoyer argument. Meanwhile every single one of our losses came at a 1 score loss with many key players out with injury.

I like how you guys try to downplay beating a playoff team. The Bills haven't made the playoffs in 17-years... Before Reid/Alex Smith got here it was 21-years since we won a playoff gm. That's a long time and we've had some good teams here. Think about that for a second.

This is the NFL, the best players/coaches in the world. Winning any NFL playoff game is impressive and an accomplishment. Hell winning a game in the NFL is an accomplishment. Every team and game is tough and a different challenge.

Most of you guys probably couldn't even make your HS football team and you want to compare beating a playoff team to buying a hooker because Alex Smith isn't an elite QB so stupid...

Give credit where credit is due. It was a great win for this organization to finally get that monkey off our back.
