Maybe Dee Ford isn't a bust?

7.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 forced holding calls in 12 starts since Houston got hurt. Not bad #'s from a complimentary rusher, though he does need to be more consistent throughout the game.

I'd still take Carr even after today, but I think the bust label might be too strong for the kid at this point.

No, if he was picked two rounds later than he was actually picked.

Here are the next ten picks that occurred after Dee Ford. How many of them would you rather have?

1 24 Cincinnati Bengals Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State Big Ten
1 25 San Diego Chargers Jason Verrett † CB TCU Big 12
1 26 Philadelphia Eagles Marcus Smith LB Louisville The American from Indianapolis via Cleveland [R1 - 7]
1 27 Arizona Cardinals Deone Bucannon S Washington State Pac-12 from New Orleans [R1 - 8]
1 28 Carolina Panthers Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State ACC
1 29 New England Patriots Dominique Easley DT Florida SEC
1 30 San Francisco 49ers Jimmie Ward S NIU MAC
1 31 Denver Broncos Bradley Roby CB Ohio State Big Ten
1 32 Minnesota Vikings Teddy Bridgewater † QB Louisville The American from Seattle [R1 - 9]
2 33 Houston Texans Xavier Su'a-Filo G UCLA Pac-12

Dennard has 2 career starts.
Verrett has started more or less one full season, though he made the pro bowl.
Marcus Smith is a backup.
Buchanan has been very productive. Anyone know anything about him?
Benjamin had a great rookie season and didn't play his second year on IR.
Easley has three career starts.
Jimmie Ward appeared to become a starter mid-season last year.
Bradley Roby is a backup.
Teddy Bridgewater started his career strong, but he has skinny knees according to scouting reports.
Xavier s'r'qa'rrra' appears to be a starter in his third year.

If I was to rate them, I'd say that Bridgewater and Verrett may be better picks, but both are injury-plagued. Ford is the only one playing this year.

Buchanan may be a better pick.

The rest are equivalent or worse. So Ford hasn't set the world on fire, but he started his career behind the top linebacker in the league, and he's got half a dozen sacks, including some at key times.

He hasn't been what we hoped for, but he's pretty much par for the course in that draft unless the Chiefs could have beefed up Bridgewater's knees.

I started re-watching the game, Ford was trying hard. I'm thinking he maybe stepping up or trying to.

Verrett, Roby, Bridgewater, Benjamin, and Su'a-Filo are all better players.

It is what it is. We've got Ford. I just hope he gets better.

Hits like a mack truck. Can play safety or smallish inside linebacker. Pretty good cover skills. Think a slightly bigger Eric Berry.

On Ford's 2nd sack, Chris Jones beat Gabe Jackson and forced that holding call that we declined.

It was a thing of beauty to see him getting in the backfield.

Mentioned it in the GDT but if that dude develops some pass rushing techniques he'll be incredible. We've all seen him walk tackles and guards right back into the QB's lap. If he can learn to rip or disengage quickly he could turn into a nightmare.
