Bingo. Do a google search on news articles over the last 6 months and there are countless headlines talking about how they were hoping to develop Gabbert into the next Alex Smith.

We undoubtedly won that trade with San Francisco.

Hard to be pissed about that when Pioli could have taken Andy Dalton instead of Jon Baldwin in 2011

Jets message to Ryan Fitzpatrick: We need to get this done before training camp

The Jets want the Ryan Fitzpatrick situation resolved before the start of training camp.
If Ryan Fitzpatrick is coming back to the Jets, Todd Bowles wants him in by training camp.

Asked if the Jets were going to add a veteran quarterback if they needed that player in soon, Bowles said, "With Ryan probably not so much because he understands the system."

"It's good to get a guy in just to have chemistry but it's not mandatory right now. It's not soon, but when it becomes mandatory you'd like to have all your guys in," Bowles said. "Not so much minicamp but training camp."

The Jets had previously indicated that they have a deadline to sign Fitzpatrick by. The team has been deadlocked in contract negotiations with the free agent quarterback for months.

Mike Maccagnan reiterated Saturday that, even after drafting Christian Hackenberg on Friday, the team still wants to bring Fitzpatrick back.

"Our focus from the pro standpoint is to get Ryan back in the fold," the GM said. "I've said this repeatedly. Nothing has changed from that standpoint."

Bowles insisted the team is not just twiddling its thumbs, waiting for Fitzpatrick to return to them.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is scrambling around looking for a big raise after career season with Jets.
"We've got three guys here that we're working, we're not just waiting for him to come back," the coach said. "If he comes back...when he comes back, we'll be happy to have him back but meanwhile we gotta get the other guys ready to play."

Mike Maccagnan shot down a report that the Jets were discussing a trade for Nick Foles with the Rams.

"I would say simply to dispel anything, we are not at this point in time in discussion with any other teams for any other quarterbacks on other teams right now...at least I can put that to bed at this point in time," he said.

Without Fitzpatrick, the Jets have three quarterbacks on their roster: Geno Smith, Hackenberg and Bryce Petty. Bowles said Friday that at this point with Fitzpatrick still a free agent, Smith is the team's starter.

Despite the long stalemate in negotiations, it still seems relatively likely that Fitzpatrick returns to the Jets because there isn't another team, at this point, that would make him the starter if he signed with them.

Another veteran alternative at quarterback for the Jets came off the board immediately after the draft, when Brian Hoyer agreed to terms with the Bears. Hoyer visited the Jets almost two weeks ago.

Right now I'd take Smith over Dalton - and I'm not a huge Smith ball-washer...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Dalton was looking like a top 5 QB before he got injured. It will be interesting to see how he does this year after losing a couple of his WR's.

I think Smith and Dalton have a comparable skillset, but Dalton takes more risks and has a better deep ball.

Dalton also has a history of playing like $#it in the post-season.

Alex may not put the team on his back and carry it but you can pretty much bank on him not being a big part of losing the game either.

And just to be fair that Bengals team is LOADED with talent. How they continue to underachieve is beyond me...

If Dalton didn't get hurt, Denver was one and done

It's gotta chap Fitz's ass that Brick Cockholster's signing bonus is bigger than the entire salary the Jets are willing to pay him.

I'm not sure hes is so "sure" to fail as you think. Gary, is not a good HC, and his offense is so freaking predictable...

Brock will be better with a offense that allows him to have more then one read....
