Trip planning help

Thinking of planning a trip for the wife and I late this summer/fall.

She's about to get a pretty substantial promotion and I'd like to reward her for it.

We're going to Sweden for a wedding next spring and are gonna take a week or two to travel Europe a bit, so not really looking north eastern Europe area etc.

So give me some ideas, places you've been and enjoyed.

I've got an eye on Thailand but not sold.

My wife and I did 3 weeks in Italy in September of last year.

4 Nights Rome
2 Nights sorrento/pompeii
4 Nights Tuscanny area (rented a car)
4 Nights Florence
3 Nights Venice
2 Nights Lake Como
1 Night Milan

Out of those my favorites were Rome and Florence. We still felt like we didn't get near enough time in Rome. Florence might not be as good if you don't like art, we did a lot of museums there.

One of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had.
It looks amazing, but I think I'd ruin my entire vacation having to do that long ass flight home. I don't mind a 3hr flight, but taking a full day plus to travel seems like a buzzkill.

Rome is fantastic. The food, the culture, the fashion, the history, the architecture. I would also suggest seeing Venice before it's gone. Milan is phenomenal as is Florence. You really can't go wrong. I'd suggest renting a car and cruising around the country side. Stop at Vineyards, restaurants, ruins, etc.

Greece is an incredible experience. I'd avoid the mainland unless you need to fly into Athens. If that's the case, go see the Acropolis and then be on your way. The islands are the way to go. I've been to Mykonos, Crete, Delos and Santorini. Each offers its own unique culture, food, and vibe. Mykonos is very much a party island. It's the Spring Break destination for most of Eastern Europe, while Crete is very diverse and vibrant. Santorini is the land of the sunset...literally built on the caldera of an ancient, active volcano. Some even strongly believe that Atalantis was once where Santorni now stands, and it's easy to see how that's a possibility. I've never been to a more beautiful place in all my life.

Here are some pics from my last trip over:

Not sure about the time of the year because if you went in summer here, it would be winter there, but Argentina is pretty cool. You could do a few days in Buenos Aires, then Mendoza, and if you can swing it, Patagonia.
