We want a GM that signs guys BEFORE they max out their talent level and trades/cuts a player BEFORE they lose that crucial step. Knowing talent and be able to stay a step head of a player's talent curve is what makes a GM really good. buy low, sell high

Lane Johnson's contract extension is in no way, shape or form, "high end".
If a similar offer exists, Fisher should take it. He'd be set for life, the Chiefs would gain cap space and another piece of the puzzle will have taken care of itself for the foreseeable future. If Fisher's play continues to ascend, he'd only be 31 years old if he saw the end of the 6 year extension which, if healthy, would allow him to cash in again in free agency. |

If he improves this year, then let's lock him down.
One good year does not a career make after his first two shit seasons.

Fisher has only had one good year, but he needs to be locked down now.

Would be less sad to see Eric Fisher go than I was Hudson.

Just think if we would have been able to lock Houston up pre-2014. Probably would have costed 60 million TOTAL. Now, I know Fisher won't do what Houston did, but if he goes to a Pro Bowl? He's going to command a lot more than right now.

The higher priority was to lock Alex Smith up.

Like most others are saying, he is an ascending player... lock him up now before the rest of the league starts to take notice

If we lock him down now and he stops getting better or regresses? Then we have another Bowe situation. All about the calculated risk.

Not really, Alex Smith still had another year to go and was coming off a good year. The next year his numbers were less.
Hindsight tells us that signing Houston first would have saved up big,big money. Also might have saved us money on Smith's contract because it might have actually dropped a little.
