Would you rather make the playoffs, or get a top 10 first round pick?

Would you rather the Chiefs squeak into the playoffs with our somewhat anemic offense and pray it's not a 1 and done. Or get a top 10 pick for Dorsey to draft who knows who?

More than likely, yes.

Exactly this.

But it's this or get a high draft pick, piss it away on a bust, and then the GM still stays in power because our 5th and 7th round draft picks are near-pro-bowlers.

Our HC/OC is pretty piss poor 1/2 the time, our QB isn't even really good when he is good, and for half the season our offensive line couldn't stop rain from falling up.

Even with all that we're now at 5-5, with an easy schedule ahead, and playing the best football of the year.

I don't think there could be a more clear example of a sports half empty/half full Rorschach test...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Add in that Bob Sutton has been a polarizing roller coaster ride. Brilliant in stretches. Miserable in stretches. No middle ground. Love how our defense is playing. I don't know that I trust them to keep doing this.

If Dontari is healthy, then this defense will be top tier. Most of the time this season it seemed like Poe was putting in %70 effort and was getting blocked by only one OL instead of being triple teamed like last year when he was rushing the passer and freeing Houston and Hali to get to the QB. Hopefully, he's recovered from it as the Denver game would indicate. He was straight up anally raping the The Bronco's interior OL.

Back problems will do that to you.

Good news is our ends are healthy, our secondary is beasting at the moment, and DJ seems to be doing just fine post achilles.

So just let them try that shizzle up the mizzle...

But keep in mind, Hali, DJ, Howard, Daniel, Berry and Allen are not under contract next year and it's likely the Chiefs will bring all them back (although Daniel is less certain because he may find a starting gig on the open market).

Hali and DJ will take up approximately $10 million combined. Berry will likely get $8 million, Howard $7 million and Allen $3 million. So right there, you're looking at $28 million, leaving only $9 million. If they re-sign Daniel, he'll command at least $3 million per, leaving only about $6 million.

$6 million isn't much considering they need to allocate almost that much for the draft.

Personally, I don't want to see them "tweak" any contracts, especially Alex Smith's, for obvious reasons. Ben Grubbs is the most likely candidate, as I seriously doubt he'll be worth $6 million next year at age 32 when he's underperformed this year and missed several games to date. But cutting him leaves $5 million in dead money with only $1 million in savings, so Dorsey's in a pickle on that one.

Bottom line is that I wouldn't expect to see any high priced free agents in KC this Spring.
I think signing DJ and Hali to extensions is a mistake. If you're a good team that can draft then DJ and Hali are the type of players you can replace in the draft. Ford SHOULD be Hali's replacement, although you find someone else as an insurance plan in case he's a flop.

So Clark needs to sell the fanbase of something that's great instead of good enough due to revenue competition with the Royals. Plus, if you look at big market cities usually one team is slotted as a possible championship contender.

If the Royals continue to kick ass, then Clark may have to take the risk and find a new face of the franchise with a QB in a specfied draft when an elite one is available
Any kid living in KC wearing Cardinals gear should have been swallowed by his mother instead of plaguing us with his presence.

All successful QB's in recent years and better than anything we've ever drafted. Not one of these guys was a top 15 pick.

And don't give up on Aaron Murray. He would've been a late 2nd or 3rd rd pick if not for that knee.
It's not like they'll ever give Murray a chance. They'll continue to trot out that piece of shit Smith.

This team needs a QB in the first round. No way they pick one unless we have top ten pick. Playoffs are useless to this franchise and will only add to the many years where we were not good enough. Our offense stinks in the red zone so bad it will cost us a playoff win even if we make it. The pick is more important.

If you say "top ten pick" over "playoffs", just stop rooting for a team and go away. Anyone who would take a draft pick over winning is an asshat. Plenty of teams have shown that sneaking into the playoffs can still result in good things. The Giants beat undefeated New England in '07 as a 5th seed WC, and again in '11 as a 9-7 4th-seed division winner. And there are shitloads of top ten picks who flame out.

That's your organization's issue. Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Derek Carr, Tony Romo... you don't need a high first-rounder to get a QB.

Also... Ryan Leaf, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, JaMarcus Russell, Joey Harrington, Rick Mirer...

There's no way we'll get a top 10 pick with our record and remaining schedule so we might as well go to the playoffs and see how it shakes out. The worst case scenario would be if we ended up just missing the playoffs and then drafting 19th or 20th. We can beat any team in the league the way we are playing right now. Ask not what the Chiefs can do for you, ask what you can do for your Chiefs!
