Would you rather make the playoffs, or get a top 10 first round pick?

Would you rather the Chiefs squeak into the playoffs with our somewhat anemic offense and pray it's not a 1 and done. Or get a top 10 pick for Dorsey to draft who knows who?

As it stands, the Chiefs have $116 million committed to 2016. The Salary cap is expected to go up to $153 from $143, so they'll have about $37 million to spend.

But keep in mind, Hali, DJ, Howard, Daniel, Berry and Allen are not under contract next year and it's likely the Chiefs will bring all them back (although Daniel is less certain because he may find a starting gig on the open market).

Hali and DJ will take up approximately $10 million combined. Berry will likely get $8 million, Howard $7 million and Allen $3 million. So right there, you're looking at $28 million, leaving only $9 million. If they re-sign Daniel, he'll command at least $3 million per, leaving only about $6 million.

$6 million isn't much considering they need to allocate almost that much for the draft.

Personally, I don't want to see them "tweak" any contracts, especially Alex Smith's, for obvious reasons. Ben Grubbs is the most likely candidate, as I seriously doubt he'll be worth $6 million next year at age 32 when he's underperformed this year and missed several games to date. But cutting him leaves $5 million in dead money with only $1 million in savings, so Dorsey's in a pickle on that one.

Bottom line is that I wouldn't expect to see any high priced free agents in KC this Spring.

I think daniel has been a good backup, but as long as they've had murray and bray around, presumably murray, needs to take over at the backup qb spot.

I would really like them to be able to keep Sean smith around, but it may be time to look for the next Sean smith

Playoffs would've good IF our defense can play at the current level against stiff competition. We need them to score and put our offense in good positions. Sadly it could turn into a field goal record, and a loss because the playoff teams are going to do what they have to, to exploit our offense and lack of vertical passing game. If there's a chance we can draft Lynch with a high first, I'd rather have that.

Damn, I forgot about Smith.

Yeah, no free agents for KC, as they need him, too.

They may have to start dedicating some miney to the offense to get balance.

Maybe if it were a top 5 pick with a different QB class.

We also have 9.5m left this year that we will rollover into next years cap.

Also, Hali is under contract next season for a 1m base salary.

Yup. No big free agents this year. Keep your own guys like the Packers did last offseason. If we get free agents, get the cheap high potential guys that Dorsey specializes in (Parker, Howard, Abdullah, etc).

Just keep developing guys and draft like you just did.

I hope guys like Conley, March, Nelson and Ford show significant progress next year.

It's kind of hard to break the playoff loss streak without getting into the playoffs.

Playoffs ... as long as we go in strong and have a chance.

If we just back into the playoffs because there are too many shitty records to keep us out then the draft pick.

All successful QB's in recent years and better than anything we've ever drafted. Not one of these guys was a top 15 pick.

And don't give up on Aaron Murray. He would've been a late 2nd or 3rd rd pick if not for that knee.

Tuesday through Friday bulletin board me wants the draft pick.

Chiefs fan me wants to enjoy as many weeks of Chiefs games as possible.

I gotta go with playoffs. I only get 16 weeks of the Chiefs. One more is icing.
