I can agree with this and I'm very interested in the knife FMB just posted. I don't mind spending $40 on a chefs knife at all.

We have a Fiestawear knife set like the one below because my wife loves Fiestaware for some ****ing reason. Better knives than others I've owned but still not super great. Sharpen them up and they do pretty damn good though.

Well, she definitely likes festive colors. Must be a colorful gal you married!

My mom and dad bought me a set of Wusthof knives for our wedding.

They kick ass.

And the knife I reach for most often is the $40 Victorinox. It holds an edge as good as any I've ever had, balance is beautiful, and the grip is great.

Is this a good deal? It includes free shipping.

That's the one.

Keep in mind, it's sharpened to a 15-degree angle (vs. 22 for the Wusthoff you have), so unless you're hand sharpening, you won't want to use a device designed for Western-style knives.

I just bought it. I should have it before Monday. I have Wolfgang Pucks, it's all good thanks for the sharpening tip though.

That's what I meant. Still a Western-style blade, so 22-degree angle. Sharpen the Victorinox at 22 degrees, and you'll ruin the blade.

If you have Eastern and Western style blades, this is a great investment: http://www.amazon.com/Chefs-Choice-A...PHNA9H4S0SDJK4

Now make sure you learn the right cutting skills—like rocking the blade. Martha Stewart has some knife skill tutorials on-line. It's good to learn and it protects your hands too.

I bought my best-performing knife at Wal-Mart! Not that I have anything "high end" in terms of knives, and even use the sharpener in the can opener to sharpen them all, but I sharpen them before every use, and they cut very well (for that use at least)...

I spent a little over $1,000 fifteen years ago and I haven't had to buy another knife since and I've haven't spent one second sharpening any of these knives. So far that works out to about $70 a year and that number will continue to fall. I'll probably own these knives for at least another 20 years.

This is one thing that really burns me up.

I just saw another "food expert" explain that prime rib is USDA prime beef. Even the "smart" people are stupid. The "prime" in prime rib has nothing to do with the USDA grading of beef. It's called prime rib because it's cooked as a "primal" cut. Can prime rib be from USDA prime beef? Absolutely. Can prime rib be from USDA choice beef? Absolutely.

Vent over.
