Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Damn...that's one impressive freakin' list.

I don't know where I have him on my list just yet, but I know I have him in the top 4-5.

As to the Boller thing, I guess I give him a little more latitude there. A 1st round QB gets 3 years, IMO. After the 3rd year, you make your decision on him and move forward if he's not the answer.

Well - Billick benched Bollers ass after 3 years, did he not? He got his rookie year, his sophomore slump and then his year 3, do or die season. He died - Billick booted him to the bench. What's the problem with that? Kyle Boller was the backup in Baltimore his last 2 seasons there.

Wouldn't we all want Geno to get 3 seasons? Or Wilson? Or Barkley or Bray or whoever we draft high?

I'm not sure I see much to kill Billick on with Boller, he did what any of us would ask our GM/Coach to do of a highly touted QB prospect - give him his shot and cut bait if he doesn't hack it.

But it's talent, then coaching. Coaching without talent only goes so far.
Its about 60% QB and 40% coaching IMO. So whoever the GM is or coach, as long as they get their QB they are good. The rest of the talent becomes less and less important after QB and way less important than coach.

See NE, Indy, Washington, GB, Pitt, etc....for examples.

Yeah, but how much of that was Billick and how much of that was Ozzie Newsome? They haven't exactly gone to heck since Billick left.

Randy Moss was in Minnesota for 1 of the 5 seasons Billick spent in Minn. In 3 of the other 4 he had offenses that averaged out to 7th in the league with absolute horseshit at QB.

If you, like Deez, believes that his success as an OC won't translate to HC - so be it. If, however, you want to argue that his success as an OC was some sort of mirage fueled by elite talent...well then you're just an idiot that hasn't done his homework.

Billick was a very very good OC in Minnesota.

Eh, you still have to have talent. Those teams have alot of talent around the QB, but said QB also masks some deficincies.

ill go back and look but I believe during that draft they took a risk, they either traded up for Suggs or traded back up for Boller, forfeiting their 1st pick for the following season.

Billick will take a risk, and not a Scooter Pioli mid round trade up to draft a brokedick TE while Jimmy Graham is still on the board type risk either. An actual go get the QB high gamble and hope for the best risk

I still can't say I'm convinced of his good offensive mind. Charles ran for 1500 yards this year and I don't think anybody would be willing to even say crennell/daboll are competent, much less good offensive minds. Jamal Lewis was a beast that year.

I'm more willing to give billick credit for that defense, or at least knowing not to **** up an elite unit at the least.
