Bless Anthony Sherman's little heart. He's doing all he can to get up there and lead block for Tyreek, just giving it all he's got, and is getting absolutely smoked by Hill. Lol. (And there was a part of me wanting to see if Tyreek could chase down Addae on that near fumble, haha)

I just like that we're already setting the bar at Rodgers and Brees for Mahomes.

And look, if Andy could build up Kevin ****ing Kolb and trade him for a second rounder(!), I have every confidence that he will get Pat's completion percentage into the mid 60's as an average.

Yeah, I don't think I can buy the "not enough people are talking about that throw" line - EVERYONE is talking about that throw. Holy shit it was magnificent. That throw and the dart to Watkins to set up the TD (to DAT?) were his two best pure throws of the game. Absolutely remarkable throws.

The slant may have been his most impressive play because of the pressure, the odd throwing angle and the remarkable precision/velocity, but when you're talking just ungodly ball placement, the throw to Sherman is pretty much impossible to beat.

The 2nd to last drive of the 2nd and the first drive of the 3rd were attempts by Reid to reign him in, IMO. That's why he got back on the running game a little.

Pat was ****ing GEEKED. That's why I say he was falling into some bad TT habits; guy was inching towards balls to the walls, hair on fire, playground football. We'll love that when we're down 13 in the 4th but there are times that needs to be controlled somewhat and I think Reid did a nice job of slowing things up a bit for him, getting his feet back under him and calming him down.

He played far more composed in the 2nd half and I think those 2 drives were a big part of that.

That throw was crazy because I saw him release the ball and the second I figured out it was Sherman.....I was laughing my ass off. And then that little ****er caught the ball and ran it in.....I was dying.

Sometimes, he shouldn't stretch plays out trying to get the home run. Like at the end of the half yesterday, he shouldnt have rolled out all the way to the right to theow into the end zone. That wasted precious seconds that could have helped us get into field goal position and put more points up on the board.

Might be a problem of small sample size. We didn't have many offensive drives. Between tyreeks punt return td, the desperation play at the end of the first half, and Andy Reid running Reid ball to protect the lead... Mahomes didn't get a ton of snaps. Doubt anyone outside of kc realizes how much that impacts his passing totals. The second and third quarter are really the best snapshot of if mahomes can manage a game. And I thought he did that superbly. People may point to the highlight reel tyreek hill throw. But to me piecing together back to back brilliantly efficient 11 play drives given the heat won us the game. Think it should be noted that mahomes had a few very long drives in the preseason too. That's a part of his game I don't know many of us may have expected this time last year.

What was crazy to me on those two long drives is that there wasn't ever really a time where I was worried that we weren't going to get 1st downs or get some points out of it. He had what.....one three and out yesterday?

At least 2; I actually thought closer to 3 or 4. He had 2 straight to end the 1st and start the 2nd (though in fairness, Watkins drop likely created the 1st one).

Then came the rushing drive after LA scored to bring it to 14-12. That was almost all rushing and designed short passes to calm shit down and get a FG on the board. It was really great game management from Andy that nobody will give him credit for because nobody ever does when he does something smart.

If we go out there and whip it around 3 times for a 3rd straight three and out then SD gets a FG to take the lead, things look a lot different going into halftime. That drive was enormous because it evened Pat's pulse a bit, IMO.

Yup.

To act like he didn't make mistakes yesterday is to do a disservice to how good he CAN be.

That was a heck of a game yesterday, but it's about 60% of what Mahomes can be. Now at his best, a lot of that improvement will go to propping up the roster chaff we'll inevitably have to surround him with when he's making insane amounts of money and gobbling up our cap space, but for the next 3 years as he improves and doesn't cost much, it's gonna be a hell of a ride.

I. Don't. Care.

EVERYONE has drops. Every QB in the league has drops and most of them have a roughly equivalent amount. Some have a few more, some a few less but in the end they come out in the wash.

A 55% completion percentage isn't terribly good. And yes, some were dropped, but Hill also made a one handed catch while spinning around into double (triple?) coverage on an underthrown ball and landed on his damn head. That play had little to do with Mahomes. The 2 'completions' on shovel passes? That shit evens out.

He needs to get that completion% up a bit if for no other reason than to give the defense more of a blow. They were pretty damn gassed out there because Mahomes missed a couple balls that could've extended drives. Not a ton, mind you, but a couple. And as a general rule I'll take his aggressiveness over a 70% completion%.

But if he needs to take one or two fewer kamikazee strikes down the field to get that rate up to 60% or so, he probably should. That's kinda a bright red line to me - he needs to stay above that or he's not playing complementary football. It's exciting football, but he'd be doing a pretty major disservice to his defense. 70% means you're probably being a chickenshit. 50-55% means you're putting a lot of pressure on your defense and this defense ain't gonna stand up to that.

60ish% and a good YPA means you're pressing downfield when it's there, keeping defenses honest and keeping drives alive. And when he gets to be truly elite; peak Mahomes (he's nowhere near that yet), he may be able to challenge that 70% without a hiccup and without dialing down aggression. Right now he's not quite there (the throw to Kelce that he rifled for no real reason in the end zone being one of those examples). There's room to improve here and I am confident he will.

And yes, that 60% will be inclusive of drops because drops happen, gents. Just accept that and move along.
This.
