The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

How are we suppose to know this? You could go off the depth chart, kinda. But we all know you can't put any stock into a week 1 PS depth chart.

Depends, are they getting moss'd by Mahomes and talented receivers, or do they just suck all of a sudden? And reports out of camp are that Cook has taken the next step, the DB's feel better about themselves than they did last year, and apparently are communicating at an exceptional level.

There hasn't been a smidge of reports on the DE's coming out of camp. We won't be able to get a gauge on this till the preseason.

But I don't see anyone saying that here. What's the disconnect?
You're asking questions about OL and DL play which is pretty dang hard to answer with limited camp reports. Some of these questions just can't be answered through twitter videos.

It seems your issue is a lack of information, not a lack of discussion.

Hard to discuss it when we have no real, valuable information on the subjects you're asking about. Just gonna have to wait till they suit up.

Andy and Toub have been in their positions for a decade, Spags for 4 years and Veach for 5. What's there to discuss there?
Amen.

He’s probably wrong.

No team on the “open market” is giving a 30 year old DT a contract with a $30+ million AAV.

If he performs like last year , yes they will. Not all GM's are at the level of Veach.

Definitely. Just like Tyreek got paid so will Chris Jones if he plays like he did last season.

Sports agents aren't dumb and they have contacts with other teams. I'm sure he has a good idea of who would be interested and for how much.

Among the top 5 DT’s with the highest AAV’s, only Aaron Donald is over 30.

Everyone else is 26/25 years old.

Also Aaron Donald last season after signing his massive contract extension was Exhibit A for why you don’t give non-QB’s over 30 big $$$.

Every year the above is posted and yeah like always cap gets a boost but is never earth shattering. Players contracts go up a position gets reset and your cap is whittled down. The chiefs start searching for players they can who will redo and get enough money to sign our draft picks and some players rinse and repeat.

I'm growing tired of this stalemate sign the man or start looking for trade partners. I love the player but if you are going to lowball him just let him go seek his money and we will go seek to repeat.

What makes you think they are lowballing him?

And before last offseason Veach himself said this upcoming offseason (this current one) is the last year before bigger cap jumps happen. New TV deals, gambling revenue and a few other factors are set to have the cap make a big jump next offseason. Agents and front offices know this.

Well I have no idea what Chris is seeking but following some of the info leaking he wants somewhere near 30 mil a year at 4 years and reports are chiefs will do 27 at 3. You mean you can't go 29 at 4? Chris stays in pretty good shape for a big man and has been a model citizen I think. I don't believe he is the drop off the table type.

Based on ****ing what exactly, if not what ifs and pure speculation?

We don't know the outcome of the play if Jones doesn't sack him. Why are you automatically assuming that it's a first and 10 or better?

What you SHOULD be speculating on, is the ACTUAL game sealing play, which was Ossai's late hit out of bounds on Mahomes.

Pacheco was a dumbass, and did not get out of bounds on the previous play when he easily could have. Now we've blown our last timeout with what, 17 seconds left from the 48.

Mahomes ran for the first down to the 44. Out of bounds with 8 seconds left and no timeouts. 9 seconds wasted scrambling for that 4 yard run.

Maybe we get fg range, maybe we get tackled in bounds again and end up going to OT. We don't know.

It's as easy to say without Ossai's stupidity we don't win the game as it is to say that if Jones doesn't sack Burrow, the ball is 1000% completed and the Bengals get the rest of the way down the field to win, and equally as stupid.

The sack was a big play, but it was not the deciding play.
