Tri tip is an abomination and a joke among real butchers. It's three different muscle groups sold as some sort of hipster cut. Sold only through supermarkets (and propagated through hack chefs) and never through a legitimate butcher. It looks like people are paying more attention to "seam" butchers. Thank god. |

131st and State Line, food can be hit and miss compared to Armourdale location. I went once, have not been back.

I certainly hope you consulted with your local Certified Poultry Meat Merchant when selecting those thighs FMB. You know, pick their brain on the ins and outs of butchering and what makes a cut "legit" or not. Make sure you heed their warnings as well as sage advice when buying your grilling supplies.

Tri-tip is a nice chunk of bottom sirloin roast, If you find a "real" butcher you can get as good, yet tastier boutique cuts from a chuck roast. When my local Kroger has Tri-tip (rare), it's always cheap and I buy it, all they have.

Yeah I don’t mind a tri tip. Makes fabulous beef and noodles amongs other things. I hard bark/char and use for fajitas also. Very versatile piece of meat, kind of like Direksun’s mom.
