Is that a First Order uniform Fin is wearing? Maybe I missed it but I haven't heard anything about him going back to them.

So, either she's Leia's child (which would make her a Skywalker) or she's the bloodline of Obi Wan and Duchess Satine. A Duchess is also considered a princess.

My initial thought when I caught that this morning was Satine.

Wonder if they'll somehow get the Darksaber to her.

That's a pretty big faux pas by Driver, if it turns out her being a Kenobi is true.

It makes sense Satine and Obi-Wan could be her grandparents. I wonder though how that will be received by the casual Star Wars fan. Those of us like the posters on here that deep dive SW will love it, but I am curious as to the effect on the massive movie going populace that only knows Star Wars from the big screen and nowhere else.

Personally I thought it was pretty freaking awesome how they incorporated Saw Guerrera into Rogue One, and I know I'll nerd out over Rey being the grandchild of Satine and Obi-Wan (if true) and give her the freaking Darksaber.

I find it hard to believe Lucasfilm would give away a major clue to the main character's heritage in a public casting call.

Has to be a red herring.

Yeah, the information that they wanted someone to possibly play Obi-Wan's granddaughter was has been publicly available for years.

One of the roles yet to be filled is that of a young black or mixed-race woman who may be a descendent of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi. In the film, which takes place 30 years after the events of 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, the character would cross paths with the children of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. (Original Star Wars stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are expected to reprise their roles, as is Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca.)

Other than the mixed race part...just seems a little...lax. I'm going to guess that MRS was considered at one point for the role of Rey.

Also, I linked to that casting call earlier in this thread and IMO, it would be really strange if Rey is the daughter of Leia and Han Solo.

Yeah I wasn't referring to that.

I'm just referring to the idea that she's related to Obi-Wan.

If that is indeed true, it would seem pretty lax for Lucasfilm to leak that info in casting news before the first movie ever came out.

Not saying it's NOT true, because there is a lot of evidence at this point, but just strikes me as sloppy and not something they'd do.

I also think the character of Duchess Satine is way too minor for her to make her way into a movie.

When Abrams was announced as the Episode VII director, he claimed that he and Lucasfilm wouldn't be secretive about the story and the characters. Then shortly after filming began, there was radio silence.

It's possible that they intended to be more open, hence the casting call, then decided against it.

While true, I also see it as a way to "expand" the Star Wars galaxy.

Abrams and Terrio have reportedly said that Episode IX will "wrap up" the nine movie Skywalker saga, while incorporating elements of the Prequels and Prequel era. The romance between Satine and Obi Wan fits perfectly into that description.

But let's say that Rey isn't a Kenobi. Why would Abram use the voice of Alec Guiness and Ewan McGregor "speak" to Rey during her "Forceback" and why would it be necessary for McGregor to record new lines for Episode VII? Why was it necessary for Obi Wan to say "Rey, these are your first steps" if they weren't related somehow?

If they're not related, it would make more sense for Master Yoda to speak to her than Obi Wan, who really failed as a Jedi Master when it came to apprentices.
