Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Based on those statements it sounds like Clark is eliminating the hire of a college coach.

Yeah, he said that certain coaches, by virtue of their experience, have some knowledge of personnel matters and that they will sometimes have a bit of a claim to personnel decisions, but I never heard him say that college coaches wouldn't be considered.

Either you're editorializing and inserting the paraphrase you thought you heard, or my feed cut out at an inopportune time.

Brian Billick was trying to win with a "best of all time" defense and Trent Dilfer at QB. That shows adaptability.

I will repeat - he was the OC of the 1998 Minnesota Vikings when they set the single-season scoring record. He's FAR from conservative when he has the right weapons to work with.

Um.

Billick was the OC of one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history.

He was pass happy before the rest of the league decided to follow suit.

Brian Billick will at least draft BPA, and most of the time BPA is how most people around here draft on draft day, because it makes sense.

Sometimes you bust out drafting BPA, but you wont bust out and fail as bad as the Scooter Pioli 10 step ego process leadership/midget/TE/lineman drafting script strategy does.

I'm not sure you are getting what I am saying. I want someone new with a fire and something to prove. Billick and Cowher would probably view it as a reunion tour to make some cash and if I win great..if not I made some money.

That was a very good interview on both parts. Good questions were asked... not just softball questions that stayed with the task at hand. And good answers from Clark. Answers he could have choose to ignor but didn't.

I feel good about the direction this team is headed.

Nice post, i'm more than willing to listen to solid arguments for the guy.

He's just not a top pick for me at this point.

That's what Clark essentially said, had Haley reported to Clark, things might be different today.

Well he got fired and had years left on his contract, so I doubt it's one-for-one because he was rehired, but I also don't think it ends there. It's business. Just have the lawyers dig into it, tell him how much it'll cost him, pay it and move on. If he never pays him and Todd makes it more public than now he will look bad, if he just pays him a negotiated price, or takes it to court for a judge to decide, then he just looks like a business man. I say the latter is far more preferable.

Latest email I got is that Clark isn't ****ing around, which is obvious from interviews. I've been out most of the day, but the email came in before Clark went on the air.

The directive is no one from the football operations side is to speak until their final notice has been given either with a termination or a return.

Clark is trying to force Pioli's hand and have him quit. Clark had a heated discussion with Scott this morning according to this email. Clark told him he won't have any say in this head coach because "this head coach will be here longer than you will".

Then there's this piece of info. Clark talked with Peyton Manning at length Sunday night. He wanted to know why the Chiefs weren't considered and everything Peyton said pointed the finger squarely on Pioli. Said Pioli's rep across the league is terrible. His inability to foster a "team" environment instead of one ruled like a dictator was huge too.

This really pissed Clark off. I said in a previous post that the loss could have triggered all of this, but it's apparent the PM discussion could have as well.

I'm completely shocked to say the least. Everything, and I mean everything, I've been told paints Clark as someone with a school boy crush on Pioli.

Clark wants to make a splash. He also wants to save the money from just firing Pioli. With all the lawsuits that former employees have pending against the Chiefs that list Pioli, Clark may have a case to fire him with definite cause.

Source said that Clark changed overnight toward Pioli.
