Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

I personally don't like any of them, it's hard to see Billick as anything but a conservative game caller in a pass happy superbowl winning league.

It's not a smokescreen. It's public posturing.

He said it would have to be the perfect situation, with the perfect GM, so he's just letting potential suitors know that the deal better be SWEET.

Yep, they don't want to come across as desperate that would cost them some extra money.

Probably so. I'll try to forget Boller.

I still want Kelly.

GM powers? Giving him more say in the players he wants doesn't necessarily mean he has to take on all the responsabilites of the GM.

I doubt Chip Kelly would be working on contracts, etc.

I see it as:

"Hey GM, i want that guy. Make it happen"

Opposed to how it was:

"Hey Coach, im signing Quinn, and no, i don't need your opinion on the matter and no, i don't care if you coached him before and think he sucks"

Why? Pay him or take him to court.. Now that he's been given the information I'm not sure he has a leg to stand on in terms of these guys who failed under Pioli at least wanting the rest of their contracts' money.

Just pay it and move into the future. Get rid of all these loose ends..

Well, let's look at the three big retread names out there -

Cowher. He has made it very clear that he loves his job at CBS and would only come back to coach in the right situation, which includes the team having a quarterback. That situation allegedly also includes a team on the east coast.

Gruden. Has made statements implying he's thinking about coaching again. Supposedly he is locked into his ESPN contract, and they do not want to lose him. That would take a fight.

Billick. I don't know much about his situation other than he works at NFLN. Has been away from the game longer than the other two, iirc.

Of those, which looks to be the best situation, and why?

This.

He's the perfect candidate if we're looking at a retread who wants complete control.

Offensive mind? Check.

Surrounds himself with defensive coaches? Check.

Cares more about talent than character? Check.

Coaches with a swagger and attitude that translates to his players on the field? Check.

He's as good as it gets, which means we have no chance.
