No one likes overpaying. But you seem to be misunderstanding the market drivers. Gas stations largely pass along the cost of the gas with a little markup on top. That markup is a little variable, but for the most part it stays pretty consistent. It's not like gas station owners are suddenly reaping huge profits when the prices spike. Most of the extra money goes to the rest of the oil supply chain ecosystem.
