NCAA Tournament Selection Thread

Are you excited to fill out a bracket tonight? I have seriously mixed feelings.

I don't know who's given me worse battered wife sports syndrome: Mizzou Basketball or Chiefs football.

Mizzou is expected to make the NCAA tournament for the first tine since 2013. Nice, but so what? In the last 30 years, Mizzou ALWAYS flames out flamboyantly, usually in its first game - including some horrendous losses to a #11, #13, #14 and #15 seed. And when they do make it far, they've either had to forfeit the season or they get Tyus Edney'ed.

It's hard to be this bad in the first round, but check out this history of futility:

1986: Lost #6 UAB 64-66
1987: Lost #13 Xavier 69-70
1988: Lost #11 Rhode Island 80-87
1990: Lost #14 Northern Iowa 71-74
1993: Lost #7 Temple 61-75
1999: Lost #9 New Mexico 59-61

2013: Lost to #8 Colorado State 72-84

Oh and if that isn't bad enough, Mizzou also has a history of flame out in the NIT. They've only won two NIT games in team history. So they don't even have NIT success working for them!

And they probably wouldn't have had WVU not completely choked a game to KU away and Keenan Evans not gotten hurt, but it did. Great for us.

Not sure any of that has to do with the fact that 2018 KU is statistically about the same quality as 2005 KU.

Against what competition you drooling Canadian reerun? It’s pretty impressive they could guard against the 3 point shot against the juggernauts of the Ivy League.

Kim Anderson also played basketball at Mizzou, and guys like Shaka Smart won more meaningful games in March than Norm ever did.

If you want to look at his contributions to Mizzou baseball, then name a urinal after him at Taylor Stadium.

I remember Norm Stewart as a kid. He was always so upset prancing around on the sidelines. I always got a kick out of him and his interviews, even when he'd say he wouldn't allow his teams to stay at Kansas hotels because he didn't want to pay any tax money to Kansas rofl. Brings back nostalgic memories.

Dude coached for 30 years at Missouri. He has to be a legend in Mizzou folklore, I would think.

It's not the percentage against that matters (although even against the scrubs of the Ivy league under 30% is very impressive), it's the fact that they limit 3PT attempts to the extent that they do. That defensive playing style will translate to whatever opponent they play and will force KU to do things on offense that are completely outside of their comfort zone.
