Who’s the best LT we could reasonably acquire at this stage of the offseason?

Did the Chiefs make the best possible move for the upcoming season? Then that’s that.

I'm starting to conclude that top-notch left tackles do not grow on trees.
Multiple teams have found decent left tackles the past few years without using top 10 picks. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s far from impossible.

Now that you mention it, you're right. I remember Bakhtiari from a while back, and I think the Bears have a guy. Who else? And what's the pattern in successful non-top-ten picks?

Oh, and that giant Samoan for Philadelphia, but we're already running a giant Samoan experiment with Kingsley.

Yikes. That sounds familiar. That said, I’m sure he’s an upgrade to our patchwork at LT last season.
You understand that's a college scouting report, right?

Considering he was a 5th round pick, it's safe to assume he's gotten A LOT better.

I’ll say it again I’m just really glad it wasn’t Dan Moore. Watching him get whooped by Danna and FAU on Christmas, yeah that doesn’t play for me.

IIRC it was the way it was structured on why he turned it down. I think both parties are probably to blame. It is too bad because no one likes this revolving door at LT.

Over the span of 2022-24, when including a tag, Brown makes more money with the Bengals than he would have with the Chiefs. Only the first three of six years with the Chiefs were guaranteed anyway. After roughly two seasons with the Bengals, he enters prime extension territory again or eventually hits free agency -- before turning 30, netting him one more big payday.

Reading more about this guy- looks like a good move. He isn’t a superstar but is about as good as we could do at this point. This also means we won’t need to reach for a third round tackle prospect in the first round of the draft.

Realistically it probably is. I’m not as worried about guard as I feel like it’s an easier position to draft for and also like the idea of giving wanya or Kingsley a full offseason go at it. I also like that we don’t have to give up on Kingsley at LT.

I also wouldn’t rule out still using the draft. We should take plenty of swings over the next few years. We gotta be willing and able to swing and a miss a few times. But until we get that figured out, let’s use a reasonably priced bandaid so we don’t do the bullshit we did last year at LT and two years ago at WR.

That's what attracted me to him -- he does trend more towards the Fisher style of athletic OTs.

He just hasn't really had to DO it yet. Like I said, those short sets the 49ers use couldn't be much different than what we do. They use those 'attack' sets that have their OTs coming forward at the snap rather than backwards a lot (similar to how Thuney was doing it).

We need to see how he puts those tools to use yet. But the fact that he at least HAS those tools is certainly encouraging.
