Are you excited to fill out a bracket tonight? I have seriously mixed feelings.

I don't know who's given me worse battered wife sports syndrome: Mizzou Basketball or Chiefs football.

Mizzou is expected to make the NCAA tournament for the first tine since 2013. Nice, but so what? In the last 30 years, Mizzou ALWAYS flames out flamboyantly, usually in its first game - including some horrendous losses to a #11, #13, #14 and #15 seed. And when they do make it far, they've either had to forfeit the season or they get Tyus Edney'ed.

It's hard to be this bad in the first round, but check out this history of futility:

1986: Lost #6 UAB 64-66
1987: Lost #13 Xavier 69-70
1988: Lost #11 Rhode Island 80-87
1990: Lost #14 Northern Iowa 71-74
1993: Lost #7 Temple 61-75
1999: Lost #9 New Mexico 59-61
2000: Lost #9 North Carolina 84-70
2011: Lost #6 Cincinnati 63-78
2012: Lost #15 Norfolk State 84-86
2013: Lost to #8 Colorado State 72-84

Oh and if that isn't bad enough, Mizzou also has a history of flame out in the NIT. They've only won two NIT games in team history. So they don't even have NIT success working for them!

Feigning concern? I've never reacted like this to a 1/16 matchup before and KU is a #1 seed basically every year. Do you wonder if there might be a reason for that?

NC State BTW is actually a pretty shitty #9 seed by most standards. Seton Hall as a 8 is underseeded and could be a solid threat to beat KU, but I'll worry about that when/if we get there.

Except this year KU is enormously flawed and nowhere near the quality of a regular #1 seed. We're basically a #3 seed quality team playing a #14 seed quality team this time.

And it looks like somebody is in denial. My assessment of KU being the same quality of the team that lost to Bucknell has nothing to do with my opinion and everything to do with the statistics. Like it or not, that is simply where this team measures out.

guard play wins in the tournament, we have one of the best in the country and then add Newman and Svi to that. We have De Sousa who played his ass off in the big 12 tournament and Azubuike coming back healthy. We'll be fine, stats aren't everything.
