in terms of talent/potential, yeah that's a decent core starting group.

In terms of actual performance?

You willing to bet anything of real value that Toney plays 17 games in 2023?

or that Skyy will make the leap to legit WR2 70+ catches/800 yds/5 TDs in 2023?

Or that Rice will exceed all historical expectations for a first-year WR in Andy's offense?

I think there's a remote possibility all of those things can happen. A coinflip's chance that we get at least one of those things to happen.

I think it's more likely that Toney plays in no more than 12 games in 2023,

Skyy improves over last season, but incrementally, not exponentially, and has a similar season to Hardman's 2nd year, with a few more catches and a better catch rate, but with about the same number of yards, maybe less,

Rice has a better season than most rooks in KC, but incrementally so.

And the rest of the WRs aren't going to take up much slack regardless.

We seem to have a room full of potential, that history tells us should be another season before becoming actualized.

Only in proven production, and only to us fans. The people who get paid to know are comfortable, and they know these kids and see them every day.

A bunch of kids in their second season in this offense, no reason to think they won't be ready to step up.

They physically play different roles in the offense.
Correct. I was simply assuming you were saying you would take Watson over James.

#1 Toney(6'0" - 4.39) and #2 Skyy (5'10" - 4.41) are your speedy underneath (YAC)
#3 MVS (6'4" - 4.37) and #4 Rice (6'1" - 4.51)are your tall lanky speedsters
#5 James (5'9" 4.4) some KR/PR duties

That leaves one spot left (assuming we carry only 6 WR) for:

Watson 6'2" 4.4 no KR/PR duties
Big Ross 6'3" 4.6* limited KR/PR duties
Little Ross 5'11" 4.2 extensive KR/PR duties

Assuming all things equal I wouldn't want to be the decision maker that's for sure. I actually am leaning towards us keeping 7 WR's on the roster.

Skyy (not sure we want that anyway) and Pacheco aren't going to be dealing with kicks this year and neither is Toney - much too valuable. Deneric Prince has some KR/PR duties assuming he makes the roster over CEH. We could very well be looking at carrying 2 WR's that can KR/PR "full time" and Watson is odd man out on that.

Ah, makes sense now.

One other thing about Watson though: he's one of the best run-blocking WRs on the roster, and he also plays multiple roles on STs besides just returner.

But yeah, I wouldn't want the job of deciding who to keep in that scenario either.
