2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony: Start time, TV channel, date, live stream, key athletes and events

The 2024 Olympic Games begin July 26 and will be televised on NBC through Aug. 11

It's the time once again. It's time for the best athletes in the world to come together and crown champions in their various sports. The 2024 Olympic Games are set to begin this week in Paris as the world descends upon France. While there will be some qualifying events taking place earlier in the week, things officially kick off on Friday with the Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Friday and feature several firsts, including being the first ceremony to be held outside of a stadium, as well as a parade of athletes held on the Seine River with boats for each national delegation. The boats will travel along a 3.7-mile stretch, passing by many iconic Parisian landmarks along the way. The ceremony will conclude with remarks from French President Emmanuel Macron.

Expect another gold-filled summer for the Americans as Team USA will be represented in just about every event over the course of the Games. Some of the biggest stars are back, including gymnast Simone Biles, decorated swimmers Katie Ledecky and Caleb Dressel, as well as track athletes Noah Lyles and Sha'carri Richardson. Plus, the men's and women's basketball teams look to extend their dominant runs at the games with more gold.

There will be two flag bearers for the United States when the team takes the boat down the Seine River -- LeBron James and tennis star Coco Gauff. The 2023 US Open champion was stunned by the news when it was revealed to her on Wednesday.

"I never thought in a million years I would have the honour of carrying the American flag for Team USA in the opening ceremony," Gauff said in a statement.

"I could not be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage there is."

They didn't give that Romanian the bronze. She protested and the score was upheld. She got 5th place. The Romanian that thought she got 3rd until Jordan Chiles and the US protested and bumped her to 4th is the one getting the bronze.

They decided to strip Chiles of her bronze medal 5 days later, something that has never been done before in this situation. The judges ****ed up her score. The judges apparently ****ed up by letting her protest even though it was just 4 seconds past the 1 minute limit. The judges ****ed up by saying that other girl stepped out when she apparently didn't step up. So now the girl that should have gotten 5th is the bronze medalist, but only because the judges ****ed up judging how two other gymnasts performed.

Real Americans the two of them. Wanted the USA to win and showed it through their actions.

The USOC does need to modernize its coaching to maintain an edge. One thing that does worry me is that the transition to college athletes as paid professionals is going to end up with schools tearing the guts out of their Olympic sports. The US won't be able to stay atop without them and without Title IX subsidizing the women's teams.

It was a great effort from the track athletes, but they won't be able to count on that much injury luck from the Jamaicans in the future.

USA Wrestling and USA Swimming need to elevate. If not for Ledecky, they would have been beaten by Marchand alone in individual medals.

I really don’t care anything about this but the story I read stated that the judges screwed the Romanian by calling her out of bounds when she wasn’t. True or false?

Meh.... he went on tv making a big deal of it and then when the drum roll quit he announced a figure that I could have matched. I literally laughed when he said it because of how awkward the moment was. I'll give him credit for doing something, but if he had done it in less dramatic way it would have scored way more points.

There are much larger donors who didn't even ask to have their names announced.

Russia got banned from all international competition whereas China still gets celebrated and I see no rulings coming down the pike. This is a show of power by China. Also worth noting that there's no feigned outrage from the media like their was with Russian doping or lance armstrong, which was a big ****ing news cycle. Google China Olympics 2024 and it's nothing but ball washing and talk about China tying the US in medals. Not that they blatantly cheated the system. I think they take Taiwan within a year.

I wouldn’t say it’s a show of Chinese power, more like fear by the authorities of having to effect outright bans on both Russia and China. The consequences of having both out would be too much to bear.
