Walt Disney World

My wife and I will be taking 2 small children to Walt Disney World in Florida in 2 weeks. I get to go as a bonus thru my work. We are staying at the Hilton. My question is what is the weather like down there in January? Any good ideas on what to see and do with twins that are 2 years old? I am kind of looking forward to it. A chance to get out of Iowa in January. Oh well, enought blabbing. Any responses are greatly appreciated.

We have 3 days left on our FL passes. Going once in April to check out the Epcot Garden festival & concert, one weekday in May to Magic Kingdom, and finally once in late June or early July (probably a weekday) to Hollywood Studios after Toy Story land opens.

Fast passes are free. Some people don't use them because they don't know. Also, sometimes it just doesn't fit your schedule. Maybe the fast pass for Tower of Terror is at 5:00 but you'd rather hit something else at that time. Downloading the Disney app helps a shit ton.

In February and even bits of early March we just say **** it and wait. Lines for most rides aren't too long. We're in "peak season" basically all year except like late January, February, late September and bits of October and November. Spring break is in full swing now so I'll avoid any of these parks like the plague until fall.

Np. Yeah I was just curious but makes sense if you want a ride not on your schedule.

For my family...having gone so many times when we make a trip to DisneyWorld we don't "have to" see everything. We can actually plan what we want to see/ride/experience and if we miss it, we just plan to hit that experience next time. That's the luxury of having a Season Pass.

And we avoid WDW at all costs from the middle of May to the end of August....the Spring Break and Fall Break time periods... and anytime the week of Christmas to after New Years.

Yeah, I bet you're right but I definitely won't go anytime after spring break moreso due to the heat.

It's actually been a colder winter this year! But still. Even if it's only 78-80 degrees; walking around and occasionally getting stuck in a line standing in direct sunlight is never fun.

When we went the first week of December last year I took fall/winter clothes because it called for cooler weather that week.

It wasn't for the first couple of days....I sweated so badly the first couple of hours in the park. I actually bought a t-shirt and when we went back for lunch I changed into that and shorts....I was much better in the afternoon.

Now when Thursday and Friday came around I had packed perfectly for those days. And when we got up on Saturday we decided to go to EPCOT early and then leave around noon and come back to J-ville....it was windy, drizzling, overcast and I darn near froze.

We're a family of 6. I've been to Disney World more than I can count, but it's been at least 6 years since I've been back. All my kids have been, but have never stayed on property. We've generally rented a house off property to stay because it's a bit more cost friendly for a family our size.

But, before they get too old (currently 19, 13, 12, & 10 years old) and more involved in sports than they already are, I want to get everyone out for one last Disney family vacation.....and stay on property so that they can enjoy everything Disney. Trip is planned for 2019 sometime. No actual dates set yet. Likely looking just after the end of school next year.

I very quickly looked and it appears that there are several resorts with rooms for 5+ people. Pricing ranges from $500/night on up.

I'm looking for any tips/suggestions/advice for a larger family trip that you might have. Better to book 2 rooms vs. paying for 1 large room? Best place for a large family with pre-teen/teenage kids to stay?

Any help is appreciated.

I hear yah. We've taken the kids twice now over the last two years and they've loved it every time. I'll be looking to head to Disneyland sometime next year but we want to go during the off times and stay at a park hotel this time. We'd do Disneyworld but that's a ton of money and a ton of time. Flights alone double the cost.

My parents both have Disney Vacation Club memberships and my family once used the points they had to stay at a villa at the Boardwalk. It's a huge 3 bedroom hotel room with a giant living room and kitchen. Plus there was a balcony that overlooked the boardwalk. It's also walking distance to Epcot and Disney Studios. We had 6 adults and 4 kids staying there.

I'm not all too familiar with how it works but my parents have used their points on Disney vacations but they have also gone on cruises and stayed at other hotels outside of Orlando as well so it's not strictly for DisneyWorld vacations.

I also know you can sell those points so if you know anyone that has a Disney Vacation Club membership, they may have points you can buy from them.

With the ages of those kids, dont sleep on Universal resort. They have like 5 on property resorts and 3 parks at this time.

what about Airbnb? There are a lot of them near Disney. Reputable one with a long history of reviews. Good neighborhoods and family friendly.

Probably save $200-300 a night. Get a whole house close to Disney for $300 a night. The resorts are really getting expensive and the tickets are pushing $120 a day now.
