Collin Cowherd said this year's Chiefs reminds him of Tom Brady's Bucs. I see it but I'm not sure if I trust what he says all the time.

He may just be the classic "5 o'clock hitter" and that's been enough to keep him in the lineup with nobody behind him really pushing him out of the way.

If anyone has a better option, I'm all ears. Because it can't be "well he's a good blocker" because all it takes for a WR to be a 'good' blocker is to kinda get in the way. And all that means is you're a willing blocker. But I don't think there's a dime's worth of difference between a 'good' blocker that's trying hard and a 'bad' blocker that's trying hard. Not at WR.

And to be completely honest, I've seen enough instances of Moore NOT trying hard to suggest that this is another 'Clark sets the edge' scenario. The close cousin of Nichol's Law of Catcher Defense. "Well he sure as shit isn't catching passes so he MUST be blocking well or why else would he be out there?"
Thanks for the response.
Yeah, he has to be showing something in practice. Obviously our coaches aren't dumb, so they must be seeing something we aren't.

I sure would love to have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin on this team.

Exactly. Give them to Mahomes and see what would happen. Hell, if Mahomes just had Evans they would be 11 -1.

They haven't struggled moving the ball down the field at all. That parts been easy. They have just been an unmitigated disaster in the red zone.
Yeah, it's a collective problem.

Some plays, guys get open but Mahomes makes a bad throw or poor read.

Other plays, Mahomes does everything correct but the WR drops it.

Yet another scenario is when both Mahomes and the WR execute but there's a penalty or a fumble after the catch.

Good offenses (2022 Chiefs) rarely have the above problems. With a struggling offense, something is always off. It only takes one cog in the machine so to speak.

I think it was DJ who said it, but 2022 is looking outlier ish in that it had Pat just....I mean dude just didn't make a mistake. 2022 is gonna be the best QB year we will ever see him play.

I seem to draw arrows around here with the criticism of him, I don't think he's playing "bad" by any means. He's still playing quality high end football.

But this group needs more than that, fair or not.

There are a lot of fair criticisms of Mahomes but there are also some people who want to let everybody else off the hook and only blame Mahomes or downplay how he's still playing relatively well despite the players/coaches around him failing him.

Of all the broken parts of this offense, he's the one I have the least worries about. Just getting him competent support will bring him back to his normal elite play. And we need to bring back elements of 2018 back. As great as 2022 was, you just know he's itching to just play wild and just make plays all over the field again.

The problem is, with his contract, "relatively well" isn't gonna cut it. He makes the $ and cap space he does, he's expected to do alot of things. You need high end elite play for that thing to get any value.

Maybe that's just not fair and not possible, I don't know. I figure he'll get this thing on the tracks because he always has.

If he's gotta have more than just competent weapons (they were last year, I still think there's similarities this year but results are results), it's not likely to happen.

What the hell happened to this guy? Was last year an outlier for him? He was actually pretty good last year. He's a totally different player this year.

Guy just fell off a damn cliff

Relatively well to his standards.

Any other QB including the elite QBs in the league would have 40 sacks and more turnovers than touchdowns at this point. And bringing up his contract is a moot point. His contract isn't what prevented them from signing or drafting good players to surround Pat with.

For all the debates over what we're getting from Rice vs. JJSS - THIS is the biggest dropoff.

What we didn't replace is 2022 MVS. I think people forget how often he made big plays for us. And the plays he made were plays that led to points.

We got so focused on the plays that juuuuust missed that we lost track of the fact that hey - 20 of 'em hit. And when they hit, that's points on the board in some fashion.

MVS collapsing has really hurt us a lot. And like you, I just don't understand it. I mean I'll accept that he didn't get any better but damn, he shouldn't have gotten worse.

That too. Just another thing that got worse.

Four or five things got worse all at once.

I'd compare it to the 97 Chiefs morphing into a complete shit show. A lot of things got worse. Rison, Grbac, etc.

The only thing people do with situations like this scream "NAGY!!!" Into the void. I don't think this is a coaching issue. Maybe MVS is going through some personal stuff? Maybe he's fighting an injury?

The guy has just lost all of his confidence man. At this point I'd try to get him some easy layup play designs to get it back up. A screen, intermediate quick passes. Anything.

This falls on the player. People thinking EB changes this by treating him like a puppy and rubbing his nose in it are dead wrong. That didn't work in 2021 and it won't work now.

The players are just not performing. It's crazy to me. It's like MVS had his talent taken by the MONSTARS or some shit.
