Mahomes is a generational talent and the highest-paid QB in the league. He has to throw that. It's an anticipation throw and an easy touchdown with timing + accuracy. Something we've seen Mahomes do over and over.

Mahomes isn't quite right. Trust, chemistry, coaching, confidence - whatever it is. That boy ain't right.

Yeah no one cares what you say. You have no idea what you're looking at and that's been proven time and time again. So hush.

I know Mahomes has been off, but some of these clips ya'll have been trying to grill him on over these past few weeks are ridiculous. Kinda tired of it.

There's plenty of times he deserves criticism. This isnt one of them.
Nah man.

Sorry. Once the safety drives on Kelce, there's a massive window there.

Take it frame by frame. You're dead ass wrong. The moment Rice was actually open Mahomes was being flushed. Rice had a guy trailing early and the other defender to his right was changing direction to take the throw away. By the time Mahomes moved out of the pocket Rice and ran himself into another defender coming from the right as well as having a man underneath.

Ya'll are just wrong, straight up. Making it seem like he was wide ass open is just wrong, he wasn't.

At the :23 second #24 is sitting underneath watching Mahomes. Then at the :24 second mark Rice has now drifted into the defender breaking on him from the right.

Lol. C'mon now people.

I've seen Patrick make that throw before. The window is there.

That safety can't get to the ball if Patrick throws it to the back of the end zone.

The corner was beat.

I saw it the same way. You can't count WR's as open if they aren't open during the QB's progression of reads.

I watched it a few times and looks like Kelce was the 1st read and after that Mahomes saw the space and decided to try to get through it.

In the red zone your time and space are gone and that problem is compounded when you don't have NFL caliber WR's on the field.

This was very clearly a zone defense. Rice was NFL open from the moment he makes his break on the slant.

From within the 5 yard line, you’re just going to have to anticipate and throw into some tight windows if you want to get the job done once the field gets crowded down here.

You're wasting your time. No amount of proof to contrary will change any minds. They're dug in and have been from the get go. Just believe your eyes and move on.

The window for the throw was at the 6-7 second mark. Looks like Pat is looking right at him and sees the defender shift his hips to take away the lane.

By the time he's flushed it's already too late. Pat committed to the scramble and Rice ran himself into a defender who was coming over from the right.

If you want to be mad at Pat at any point during this play you can be mad at him for not throwing him early.

Lets also not forget that this would've been a scramble for good yardage to get them inside the 5 too.

Isn't that the play design, though?

Kelce is there - probably as the first read - on the underneath route. If he draws the attention of the safety over the top, that's going to open up Rice. And that's exactly what happened. You can see the safety at 22 seconds peak at Kelce and start down towards him. Now Mahomes, with all of that in front of him, should read that the play design has worked to get his 2nd read open and put that ball in that window for Rice to run it down.

I think he had the throw and had it fairly easily. But he dropped his eyes when the safety came down to Kelce instead of making the next progression to Rice.

He had the time, he had a throwing lane, Rice had the space.

Ball should've been thrown, IMO.

This is fair, but it's also quite possible Kelce was the primary read on the play. That would explain why the early window to make that throw on time was missed.

Throwing early is a backwards read, though. I think Kelce and the safety are the read keys and he needs to see what the safety does before he commits.

The problem is that he sees what the safety does and just bails from the play altogether. He simply stops his reads once Kelce is covered. And he's done that a LOT this year.

He should've immediately come off Kelce and seen that lane to the safety's left. As has been noted, those are the windows you get inside the 10. If you're unwilling to throw that ball at that time, don't call that play.

Because that play worked as designed. The QB just didn't stay with the design.

I would be fine with letting Rice run a slant in the red zone and have that as the primary read. Looks like it was Kelce instead on that play.
