Pretty awesome thinking a fish could be caught on rod/reel that was born around the same time as Abraham Lincoln.
Centuries-old rockfish believed to have been caught off Alaska’s coast Published July 02, 2013 An insurance adjustor from Seattle caught a rockfish outside Juneau, Alaska, last week that weighed 39.08 pounds and believed to be around 200 years old, The Sitka Sentinel reported. Henry Liebman, the adjustor, told the paper that he was fishing in 900 feet of water at the time and was about 10 miles off the coast of Sitka. Rockfish, the paper said. These fish have been known to live as far down as 4,000 feet. “I knew it was abnormally big (but I) didn’t know it was a record until on the way back we looked in the Alaska guide book that was on the boat,” Liebman told the paper. The fish was certified and a sample was sent to a lab in Juneau where the fish’s age will be officially determined. Liebman, for his part, plans having the fish mounted. If this fish was indeed born 200 year ago, it would have been born around the same time the U.S. entered the War of 1812, James Madison was president and the German composer Richard Wagner was born. Troy Tidingco, the Sitka area manager from the state Department of Fish and Game, told the paper that the previous record fish was 205 years old and that fish was "quite a bit smaller" than the one Liebman caught, the paper reported. Rockfish have a high release mortality because they are caught in such deep waters. They often suffer from an inflated swim bladder after reaching the boat. Here's some fun fishing pics from our trip to Florida. A little background: we were doing our family beach picture night, which is always a fiasco. We do it at "magic hour" (shortly before dusk). Well, we're doing our pictures, and a school of lady fish start busting bait like freaking crazy behind us. Just a massive school. I'm dying as the pictures are taking forever. Finally, the pics are over, I run and grab my rod.. and me and the boys proceeded to have a grand time:
Here's what a clouser minnow looks like after catching a ton of lady fish (bottom fly vs. unused top fly):

We finally got enough rain this year that the local lakes have filled back up. I'm hoping to get back out there next year and Fish On. This sucks not having a water hole & not go all year but looks like I'm going gear up for next year.
Awesome pics dads fishing with their kids in this thread

That said, i've had my best all around fishing year this summer... the first flathead and blue cats of my life, all between 15-25 pounds, several 5-7 pound bass, a HUGE drum about 15 pounds that fought like hell, several crappie caught while not even fishing for them and i've found some absolutely killer creeks chock full of fish that i bet no one has fished in ten years, they're waaay out in the boonies and worth every gallon of gas it takes to get there. |

I have let buckets full of big ones go. It's all just in finding the right spot, but going for crappie can be a blast. Big ass fish though.

That's actually my first Woody Harrelson comparison. I used to get the John Malkovich comparison because I wore overalls and a conductor hat during my Dead Head days and looked like him in "Of Mice and Men." Bald mother****ers. We all look alike.
