NfL owners meeting this week. 18 game schedule

NFL owners meeting this week to discuss potential for 18-game regular season

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's campaign to add an 18th game to the regular-season schedule is reportedly set to gain momentum during next week's annual owners meetings.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, two NFL executives believe schedule expansion talks "will intensify" when the annual meeting talks place in Palm Beach, Florida from March 30 to April 2.

Those talks will be part of what is expected to be "more assertive efforts" from Goodell and team owners to talk schedule expansion this summer, according to Robinson.

The NFL has an option to opt out of many of its current broadcast deals after the 2029 season. The league could theoretically hope to get more money on a new deal if it can promise networks 18-game seasons after the current collective bargaining agreement expires in March 2031.

I honestly don't know how lineman can keep from passing out.

Seriously. I used to be an athlete many moons ago.

I would take 0 degrees Fahrenheit over 115.

I mean it sucks for finger dexterity, but otherwise.

At least no frostbite like those people who attended the Dolphins Wild Card game at Arrowhead.

Fans will complain.

The same fans will still watch in record numbers.

Czar Roger and the owners know this.

Rinse and repeat.

I dont go through much trouble to watch NFL games anymore. I do not chase apps for games or watch the games oversees if they're on at an odd time or on a channel I dont have. I missed several live Chiefs games last year and Im sure that will be the case this year. If it requires any extra effort on my part, I dont watch.

Not me. I want it gone, along with any rule that allows another player to push the ball carrier forward. Just go back to the OLD RULE that was in place for decades, where no offensive player can be pushed by another offensive player to advance the football. THE END

Pretty sure he means not signing up for Netflix just to watch one Christmas Day game, or Prime for one TNF game, or Peacock for one playoff game, or finding a stream if it's blacked our locally, etc.

I was trying to watch a freakin' nationally televised hockey game last night and was blocked from it on TNT because it was simulcast on some random $20/month streaming platform for Colorado sports (while sitting in AZ ).... at a certain point it's like they're telling people to illegally stream and it's just not worth it.

No... But downloading an app and paying extra for a service, like Netflix or Paramount+, just to watch a game is...Then having to go though the trouble of canceling the service afterwards, definitely is. If it's not on the TV service that I have, then I don't mess with it. I'll just catch the replay. Or miss it all together

Right. But then I wonder how come NFLE didn't grow into something? I don't believe they can manufacture a market outside of the USA except for a few games so to me it looks like the NFL is creating a new time slot where the broadcasters will pay to show those games so they can sell advertising.

That is definitely part of this, but they don't have to have teams in Europe to profit. They just need the interest to be there and for it to grow. The more people in Europe and elsewhere that watch the games, the more money the league can make from selling broadcasting rights. Then there's always merchandising. Maybe someday there will be interest at high enough levels that the NFL expands into foreign countries, but for now, they just need the growth.

You should Kano that other teams played three games in an 11-day period just like we did. IIRC, the Steelers and Texans were playing the same number of games in the same stretch that we did. The Lions also did it earlier in the season.

I’d prefer being a Turkey Day fixture than Christmas Day.

When’s the last time we even played on Thanksgiving? Been a while.
