How are we feeling about our O-Line?

A big focus this off season was to fix the O-line. How are you feeling going into this season with this line? .

LT - Jaylon Moore
LG - Kingsley Suamataia
C - Creed Humphrey
RG - Trey Smith
RT - Jawaan Taylor

The point is that the team IS constantly fighting for a championship. EVERY YEAR. And that's EXACTLY why we're in this position.

This means that EVERY year KC drafts #31 or #32. This means that DRAFTING a LT means a PROJECT. The problem is, they kind of have to play to DEVELOP.

And that's the catch-22 there. You can't afford the growing pains because you're fighting for a championship EVERY year.

OBJ had an inflated sense of self-worth. He wanted more than his market value, Veach wouldn't go that far and he eventually signed for LESS in Cincinnati out of spite.

Now, maybe you think Veach should have just given him whatever he wanted, but I think that sets a shitty precedent.

We won a Super Bowl with Smith since then. Burrow's missed an entire season to injury. So I guess maybe Cincinnati's approach to the offensive line hasn't been so great, right? Burrow's missed almost two entire seasons. In either of THOSE off-seasons, Cinci could have probably drafted a legit LT. We don't have seasons with shitty records, so we don't really have that option.

Let's break this response down.

Most?
2018 - no question, Eric Fisher
2019 - no question, Eric Fisher
2020 - no question, Eric Fisher (blows his Achilles, career over, in AFC championship game)
2021 - no question, traded 1st round pick for Orlando Brown after trying to make Trent Williams the highest paid T in the league.
2022 - no question, Orlando Brown
2023 - question, get through season with Donovan Smith
2024 - questions, try to cover position with two young players. Did not develop quickly enough/work

So really, you can say - at most - they have had TWO seasons with questions at the LT spot. And really, only one of those was a "well, we'll see what sticks" year.

2/7 or 1/7... neither is "most."

He WAS serviceable. For sure. The Chiefs offered him a lot of money and a deal on par with/better than the one he actually signed. (And even that deal was more than many were comfortable with).

But ok let's do it anyway.
Hindsight is a powerful evaluation tool, unfortunately unavailable to everyone except Doc Brown, Marty McFly, and occasionally Biff Tannen.

They had two young players with the physical tools they like at LT. They tried to get through the season and let them develop. It didn't work. Yes, it was a risk. But as pointed out, when you are drafting where the Chiefs are, and great LTs rarely make it to true free agency, it's a tough spot.

As pointed out above, they have not been going into most seasons with questions at LT.

They spent a decent chunk on Moore to try and fix LT. We don't know what the rest of the plan is. Is there another depth veteran signing coming (Cam Robinson? Jedrick Wills? D.J. Humphries?)? Will they spend another draft pick on a player at that position?

Too soon to know and evaluate. Again, unless you're Biff Tannen.

It's easy to say "FIX IT VEACH." It is quite another to, actually, fix it.

So that's what is up, Biff.

Maybe if Robinson's market collapses.
We need an emergency tackle in case of injury. Wouldn't be opposed to this at all.

Concerned about the left side. I think Moore will have similar problems with speed rushers that we got used to last year. Unfortunately, as of now, there will be a second year player next to Moore so that amplifies the issue. Also a bit unnerving that we’re a Moore injury away from Kingsley and Wanya playing next to each other.

Concerns with Taylor are also still prevalent.

Regarding LT depth I am 100% with you, this is why I think re-signing Humphries makes sense, but would the price be right. I would think Humphries could be back up for both the LT & RT positions. Morris I would only want to see at guard from this point on
