-- as a child, what grocery store was the first you remember being in....? Also,
...what food-items do you remember your parents or guardian carting?

I think mine was Milgram's on Seven Hwy. across from Zarda Dairy.

Mom bought Seitz Hot-dogs and Mac-n-cheese loaf.

Also, bagged cereal. We were poor like the dickens.

Safeway was my first, after that I went to Phar-More. I remember they had really cheap game rentals way back when.

Acme is the first store I remember, but I can't remember anything about it other than the cheap ass shoes in the front of the store.

We had a Service Merchandise here, ours had a big conveyor belt where you'd wait for your stuff to come up after you paid for it. I didn't think it was unusual at the time, but looking back that was pretty much the dumbest concept ever for a retail store.

The store I always remember is GSC (I think that was the name anyway). It was one of those stores kind of like Aldi is now. Instead of shopping carts they had these ugly ass crate movers. They were fun as hell to ride on.
