Carroll's Comments on Sanchez

I know this has been posted in other threads but I thought it deserved a little personal attention since there seem to be a lot of USC fans on here.

Is it just me or did Pete Carroll come off like a total asshole in his comments about Sanchez leaving? I can't find the full quote yet but he made it clear that he thought it was a terrible decision and Sanchez is not ready. I am usually a fan of Carroll and as someone who lives in L.A. (although not a USC fan) I think he is a great ambassador for college football who carries himself with a lot of class.

What's with his complete lack of support?? Any USC fans wanna enlighten me?

Thigpen isn't a journeyman QB like Kitna...he's a young guy with ability...if he progresses this offseason and plays good football, displays some accuracy and better decision making...I'll take it. I'll take all of the talented QB's we can get...I'll take a Drew Brees/Philip Rivers situation in a heartbeat.

I don't see how you think there is no current viable QB...Thigpen weathered the storm last year...stayed healthy and played decent football for a horrible team.

You can point to Ryan (rare, rare, rare case) and Flacco (wouldn't have been the starter if Troy Smith didn't suffer that fluke pre-season tonsil issue)...but the Chiefs aren't in a hurry, especially if they draft Sanchez...

And if they don't draft Sanchez or Stafford and take someone in round 2, 3 or 4...then you can bet 100% Thigpen will be opening day starter.

I mean the guy had a decent season, at least statistically, I'm pretty sure the coaching staff is going to give him first chance to **** up before they turn over the reigns to the rookie.
I don't know why anyone would think that Thigpen is the starter for next year. He hasn't proven the ability to be able to work from behind center. It would be stupid to draft Sanchez and have him learn behind Thigpen in a system that will be abandoned as soon as Sanchez were to take over.

Nope. That was never in the plans for Palmer...they drafted him and everyone knew Cincy didn't want him to see the field that year. Not after Tim Couch...Cincy had front-row tickets to that disaster in Cleveland.

Not saying he's a great QB or anything...but I believe the system in place and the people around you, as well as talent and mindset has more to do with success than the # of college starts.

If Sanchez is who Pioli takes at #3, keep Thigpen as the starter and give Sanchez a year to learn the ropes with a clipboard in his hand...

If Thigpen shits the bed turn over the reigns to Sanchez mid-season.

If Thigpen lights it up, well then, that's a problem I'm willing to experience.
This is what I would like to see happen if we do, in fact end up with Sanchez.
However if we get Stafford, I say we let him fight for the job in camp, which he will most certainly win.

This.

Washington also sat Jason Campbell his rookie year when they had aging Mark Brunell.

Cleveland also sat Brady Quinn his rookie year when they had Derek Anderson who threw 5 TDs and 8 picks the prior year.

Learn behind Thigpen?

What?

The 'Thigpen can't play behind center' shit is pure myth. No QB could play in R2P2 last year because half of our line didn't block...

Whoever is running the offense next year needs to run THEIR system...if Thigpen can't pull that off then I agree, he's worthless...but I saw Thigpen make several good throws and reads from behind center this year...the only reason we needed a gimmick offense was because, like I said, we had MAJOR MAJOR protection issues.

and obviously no one really thinks, or few people at least, that Thigpen will be our future...but Baltimore was heading into the season with Troy Smith as their QB...because Flacco was extremely 'raw'...and a fluke situation to Smith and a freak injury to Boller is the only reason Flacco ever sniffed the field.

Sanchez will probably be listed at #3 next year if we draft him...for a year...behind Thigpen and Croyle. Learn the ropes, give Pioli a season to evaluate, and then set him up for success in 2010.

If he truly cares about the kid, why publicly shit in the helmet of a player that is going to represent the USC program in the pros?

What if the advisory report saying Sanchez is a 2nd rounder is fairly accurate and Carroll's contacts in the NFL told him Sanchez was a 2nd rounder?

Even if true, it shows a huge lack of class on Carroll's part to drag this into the media. He's only hurting Sanchez more by blowing it up in the media.

Imagine Bob Stoops calling Bradford an idiot for returning to OU, if he happened to be told he'd be a Top 5 pick by the advisory committee and his contacts.

Right or wrong, you keep that kind of talk in house.

Might as well be.

If Carroll feels Mark is making a mistake, fine. He's entitled to that opinion.

But what I don't understand is what there is to gain for Carroll in making it public, other than trying to embarrass Mark, or get him to change his mind. Calling out the decision publicly serves no good purpose, IMO.

Exactly, it was a douchebag move on Carroll's part.

If he disagrees, so be it...handle it in house...not out in the public.
