I think the Chiefs have always earmarked either 2026 or 2027, just prior to the new season starting, to be the time when they give Mahomes a massive new extension that likely draws his total years under contract back out to 10 years again (maintaining salary cap flexibility).

This! Mortgage however many years you need to if it keeps us in good salary cap situations during mahomes prime years.

I still cannot for the life of me understand why QBs who desperately need to start winning games to cement their legacy choose a few bucks today. When you start winning more games, your legacy as a spokesperson, a hall of famer, a future nfl analyst goes through the roof. But nah, let’s take more money so your team can suck more in one of the highest pressure nfl environments

Because they're one hit away from becoming irrelevant

So then try to win some games and become immortal. Free up cap space to give you some linemen to block for you. Or afford an actual rb. Especially in a market like dallas. Dak is good enough that there’s a lot of money to be made outside of football if they just won some damn games.

Same goes for WRs. How many WRs have ruined their careers playing for QBs and coaches who suck getting them the ball?
