Sorry, but in cases where a guy's either dying or severely ****ed up, regardless, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt until something comes up to disprove that line of thinking.

Mr. Taylor grew up in Florida and lives primarily in a sprawling, one-story house in Palmetto Bay, an affluent suburb south of Miami. His father, Pedro W. Taylor, is the chief of the Florida City Police Department, a municipality in southern Miami-Dade County about 15 miles southwest of Mr. Taylor’s home.

This afternoon, Miami-Dade police investigators were combing for evidence in the yard and driveway of Mr. Taylor’s pale yellow-colored house, which sat behind a six-foot white wall on a main road that runs past some of southern Miami-Dade County’s grandest estates. NYT

Investigators may be investigating whether there is any relation between these break-ins and a dispute two years ago between Mr. Taylor and some men in West Perrine, a depressed neighborhood near his current home.

In June 2005, Mr. Taylor was arrested and charged with felony assault and battery after the authorities said he pointed a gun at three men outside a house in West Perrine and accused them of stealing two all-terrain vehicles from him.

Witnesses told the police that Mr. Taylor, accompanied by an entourage, assaulted one of the men and made death threats before driving off. Minutes later, a group of men drove by his parked GMC Yukon Denali and opened fire, leaving the truck riddled with bullets. Mr. Taylor’s vehicle was empty at the time, and the gunmen were never identified or arrested. NYT

It's pretty screwed up how some people seem to imply that Sean Taylor got what he had coming to him.....

His dad is the Chiefs of ****ing Police, I'm sure he's out thuggin around. And whoever did that is ****in dead, you just damn near killed the Chief of Polices kid.

You know this headline could have read "Sean Taylor slices man to pieces" seeing as it says he has a machete for protection....I wonder how everyone would be responding to that. "What a thug he cut that guy up"

Not sure how you jumped to the racist remark. My comments and those of others are based purely on his history, and I've already mentioned that if it was someone like Chris Samuels or Ladell Betts, both of whom are also black, by the way, I'd be inclined to believe the "random shooting intruder" story.

But come on. Seriously, how many burglaries involve the burglars kicking down doors and shooting the homeowner? (See story in Post 66.) That is not the modus operendi of run-of-the-mill burglars, of whom 99.99 percent will run at the first sign of trouble, and it's not like those guys were cornered or anything. It's exceedingly rare for someone to randomly break into a house and start shooting at a random homeowner on an offensive basis.

If he is an innocent victim, it would be more likely to be a kidnapping attempt or something, but who wants to kidnap a nasty and aggressive strong safety?

Nah. I'll play the odds here. I'll be really surprised if he doesn't know why it happened. He'll probably never tell, but I'll bet he knows.

He brandished a gun and punched a guy that stole ATV's from him....I'm pretty sure if someone stole an ATV from most people and they knew who did it, that guy would be receiving an ass beating.

Well, regardless, my hope is that it's either a really bizarre random thing or it's related to something else he was doing besides the whole "brandishing a gun at ATV thieves" situation. It's a scary thought to imagine doing something like that and then have the thieves trying to kill you two years later.

Instead of calling the cops, I'd definitely show up myself with a gun and try to take care of the situation.
