I think it's more of a talent issue than a coaching issue, but if you look at two teams that really stand out this season in terms of successfully developing young/unheralded WR's... Houston and the Rams... they both have experienced WR coaches.

Meanwhile Andy promoted his inexperienced intern to the Chiefs WR coach position.

Yeah. It's almost like Bieniemy actually had been important to the success of the offense and the new staff kind of suck. Especially that blunpkin at WR coach.

The only guy here worth "developing" is Rashee Rice and they aren't even using him as a WR but a YAC, get the ball and run near the LOS.

Let's see Rice actually run slants and posts down the field this week because someone has to do it that could catch a cold.

Is there anyone - anyone at all - that doesn't believe this is EXACTLY what we'll do?

I think the entire board has seen that Veach is aggressive in attacking holes in the roster; sometimes to the point of overaggressive. And that the team he took over had a dynamic offensive but aging (and awful) defense. So of course he's prioritized additions to the defense over the last several years.

In so doing he's STILL traded a 1st round pick for an OT, used a 1st round pick on a RB and used a couple 2nd round picks on WRs and traded another 3rd rounder for a former first rounder. He's also given out massive contracts for an OT and LG. Not to mention trading the 2018 1st rounder in the 2017 deal to get the baddest mother****er on the planet.

He's GOING to address the offense aggressively this off-season. I think he felt that there was another year left before he had to do so. Had we not seen simultaneous regression across the board in the WR group, I think he'd have been right.

But he's absolutely going to continue to turn the knob towards the offense. He (maybe) miscalculated on how much runway he had left with the present weapons until he had to do so. And he likely did so based on how the well the offense operated last year.

I think a lot of this is just really self-evident.

They drafted 2 pass rushers in the first rd in back-to-back years and used a good bit of money on Omenihu. Then they spent day 3 picks for depth.

They only drafted one first rd corner and then drafted depth on day 3

Why the **** Rice is not running actual routes is beyond me. I understand Andy's system relies on WR's adjusting their routes while running them. But jesus... You telling me this kid with a 41' vert cannot be used down field?

Some of that is maddening. Perhaps the weirdest decision is not to have him in on a Hail Mary play. Or why would we ever ever pull him off on a third and long.

Taking him or pop off the field should be a flag....

You only take those two off the field to give them a breather.

It's insane. Especially when Reid mentioned they didn't need to add a WR who could run NFL routes and catch the ball at the trade deadline because they were going to "develop" Rice and Moore.

Let's see it then. Develop them before Christmas please.

Fair point.

The attention to detail in 2021 was pretty shitty as well. Focus among the WRs (and productivity outside of Hill) was clearly lacking.

Again, I still feel like this is just a situation where we expected 2022 as the 'new normal' for Mahomes and that was just an unreasonable expectation. He played the position at a higher level than anyone I've ever seen. It was arguably the greatest QB season of all time.

Can't expect that every year. And this year we're not getting it so he's unable to elevate the talent of the players around him to the same extent he did last season.

Lesson learned. We'll do better next time.

Agreed... they need to expand his route tree beyond just bubble screens and short crossing patterns.

Yeah I have lots of faith that veach will prioritize it and is elite at fixing it. This is more to address concerns that turning that knob to offense means we’re gonna give up 30 points per game. There’s a lot of room in between and the better our offense gets, the less we need them to be the elite kind of defense we have right now. If we all truly want balance that should be reasonable
