With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

I think they'll be very well positioned to make a move for the Gio Gonzalez/Mat Latos/etc. person of 2013. It wouldn't shock me if in November 2013, we're talking about the Royals putting together a package for a familiar name: David Price.

I'd be okay with two years for Marcum if that's what it takes. Much preferable to trading Wil Myers unless it is Myers + ? for David Price now...

works for me. If we get a B+ prospect in AA for both of them, fine, get them off our payroll.

Don't care if we literally get a gum wrapper in return. Ship that to Pioli and be happy as hell to be Hoch and Chen free.

What in the name of !@#$ makes you think you'll get a B+ prospect for those 2 guys?

If you get mere salary relief, take it and run. You will get absolutely nothing for Hochevar and Chen, not even a D- prospect. You might get an A ball catcher with a nice arm that can't hit a breaking ball that you could possibly convert to a relief pitcher or something.

A B+ prospect would be someone like Giovatella. No, you're not getting anyone that has even a 10% chance at seeing a major league roster for that collection of overpaid trash.

Hopefully that means that, failing a trade, Hoch will be non-tendered.

Which means that probably no one will trade for him. So just be prepared to bite the bullet, Dayton.

Do you think we can flip Hoch for a back end of the rotation starter?

Let me say this...obviously both our owners have proven to be VERY flawed.

But at least when uproar came out about the soft ceiling and the heat came, Glass responded. And at least now when it's clear that GMDM's golden boy (Hoch) isn't so golden, he's willing to cut his losses and say goodbye so that he can replace him with better talent.

It's not much, but it's better than what we've gotten from the other side of the parking lot so far.
