With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Oh, there's plenty.

I'm just a baseball junkie. Breakfast is spent reading Baseball Prospectus, MLB Trade Rumors, etc. Twitter helps. Hit a few message boards here and there. Talk to a few guys I know who still are "in the industry."

If Matt Moore is off the table, I don't see who Myers gets moved for.

He isn't getting traded for prospects and guys like King Felix and Price aren't realistic.

I don't want Myers moved because I view him as our starting RF right now. Additionally, we have more than enough money to buy a FA. If Glass prevents this--mother**** him if he does--we have enough young arms to make a deal for a #3 by utilizing our farm.

It depends on which Lester you get, are you getting the 08-10 Lester who was a top 10 pitcher and legit ace or the 11-12 where he was in the 30's, still a 2/3 starter. I think it could be a "win win" for both teams, with the Sox not looking to contend next season and the Royals needing pitching badly.

If this franchise trades Wil Myers for anything less than the next Cy Young, then it's not worth it.

This means it will be a trade straight up for Lester and I can officially close the book on this franchise. Forever.

I hear you.

I've never had a home-town NBA team, and thus I've never been a strong fan of the league more generally. Within the last few months, though, I've been following the Thunder pretty closely, and I've contacted my local government agency to begin the adoption process.

It's been therapeutic.

I understand your frustration but that is just not going to happen. Look at the haul teams get when they do trade a Cy Young type guy, its much more than one top prospect. If you want to hold out on Myers and aren't willing to part with Hos, Moose etc. then your hoping we sign a guy like Sanchez or Greinke in FA which just isn't going to happen.

I'd like to see a package revolving around Myers for a true stud, as opposed to Myers for a guy like Shields straight up.

That stud would most likely be a prospect, and now we're back to wishing and hoping. So let's say that both guys develop as expected, Myers and this stud to be named later. Best case scenario, Royals still lose the trade since a front-line position player with worth more than a front-of-the-rotation starter.
