Tourist(s) missing in submarine while trying to reach the Titannic

https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/u-s-coa...-sub-1.6446841

Quote:
A search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate a submarine that went missing during an expedition to the Titanic.
The U.S. Coast Guard was looking for the submarine Monday morning after it disappeared during the expedition from St. John's, N.L. The infamous 1912 wreck is located more than 600 kilometres southeast of the province in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The trip to the Titanic was being run by OceanGate Expeditions, a U.S.-based company. It uses a five-person submersible named Titan to reach the wreckage 3,800 metres below the surface. OceanGate's website advertises a seven-night voyage to the Titanic for US$250,000 per person, or approximately CA$330,000.
"We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely," an OceanGate spokesperson said in an email to CTV News. "Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families."

Those tours are a series of five eight-day missions to the Titanic with the money raised by tourists going towards Titanic research. Posts on social media show the ship launched from the St. John's area last week.

Did they really have 5 people in this?? Or do they have a larger version??

You're 19 and a billionaire's kid.

You have an entire life ahead of you of doing rich people shit. Banging the hottest skanks (def not the Pakistani kind, import some good ones), driving sweet ass sports cars, hanging out on yachts and getting faded, gambling millions across the globe.

All gone because your dad was a ****ing shipwreck nerd.

But you should have reasonable confidence that the manufacturer has done their due diligence to minimize those risks.

In this case, the passengers should have some reasonable confidence that the manufacturer knows what they're doing. Is there a risk of death? Of course. But a waiver is not defensible if the manufacturer is negligent in providing safety to the greatest extent reasonable. These people were fraudulent in portraying their ability and skill accurately and honestly.
You are correct. You cannot sign away your own negligence. The interview with Cameron posted earlier was instructive. He's done 33 dives to the Titanic. He and Dr. Ballard would be a devastating combination to show that while submersibles are admittedly dangerous, there are numerous ways to mitigate that risk. It sounds like OceanGate did not avail themselves of those ways. Further, they were put on notice in at least 2018, based upon prior reporting regarding an employment lawsuit. I also understand that there were other documented occasions in which the submersible did not perform as anticipated/expected. All of that means that the company was on notice about problems with their equipment and they cannot sign away their own liability.

Now if the sub were proven to have been eaten by a megalodon, well, they would be out of luck. That's the kind of risk that the sub company could not reasonably anticipate and that passengers should be aware could (emphasis on could - I know it's a movie/joke) happen.

Or that you posted exactly the same thing that was posted 2 posts above yours, and then was quoted in the next post right above your post. Both 10+ minutes before your post.

Snorkeling on a reef to see the amazing fish finishes off the ocean exploring bucket list item. No need to go deeper.
