OP UPDATE:

Even if Alex plays well it's going to be tempting to get a pick and 17 million back to the cap if they feel Mahomes is ready. Time will tell.

They didn't give up 2 1st round picks. They bettered their original pick by 17! That was way better than a simple swap. So in reality, they gave up an additional 1st and a 3rd. But the return is a pro bowler player for the next 10 years.

If he pans out as a top tier QB it's still a gigantic steal. You could give up your next 10 1st round draft picks to draft Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady and it would easily be worth it. You can always backfill with trades etc.

DJ and Tamba and possibly colquitt will free up around 10-12 mil plus we have 10 mi right now which will rollover. Possibly 20 mil and that's with Smith as QB. You don't have to pay Peters 14 mil every year. You back end their contracts. Dorsey was good about doing that.

When you backload everything, that's how you **** up the cap and wind up being forced to cut Jeremy Maclin in ****ing May.

No way anything past 2 years is happening with the Chiefs unless Mahomes is a complete bust and Alex is awesome. I wouldn't bet on either.

2018 will be Smiths last season here if he isn't cut next year. Like I said before if he doesn't at least get us to the AFCCG he is gone for sure
