NfL owners meeting this week. 18 game schedule

NFL owners meeting this week to discuss potential for 18-game regular season

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's campaign to add an 18th game to the regular-season schedule is reportedly set to gain momentum during next week's annual owners meetings.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, two NFL executives believe schedule expansion talks "will intensify" when the annual meeting talks place in Palm Beach, Florida from March 30 to April 2.

Those talks will be part of what is expected to be "more assertive efforts" from Goodell and team owners to talk schedule expansion this summer, according to Robinson.

The NFL has an option to opt out of many of its current broadcast deals after the 2029 season. The league could theoretically hope to get more money on a new deal if it can promise networks 18-game seasons after the current collective bargaining agreement expires in March 2031.

Exactly! Overexposure is the next plateau which may seem impossible to many.

Yeah, seriously doubt ticket prices went down when the 17th game was added, and games seem to get less and less accessible as games/time slots are added... Prime, Peacock, Netflix. The 18th game will probably be an Apple TV exclusive.

Oh right, people are going to skip games and they are going to be overexposed and prices are going up.

You’re silly.

Watching the Chiefs on a TV is a given in Florida.

I was a season ticket holder for a long time. When I took the job in 'Florida, I was use to watching the games with other fans. Thats how the whole Arrowhead Kingdom started. I wanted to watch the games with my fellow Chief fans in person even if it was on TV only.

Bearcat, you're a mod. Can you do something to stop the 18th game or the stupid Friday night Chargers opening game from happening?

Please help me with your thought process on how tickets to an NFL game will become cheaper. I look forward to reading it. Less demand due to overexposure?

I highly doubt that the tickets will be cheaper in the primary market, but the increased supply of game tickets could lead to lower prices in the secondary market.

I'll see what I can do. Here's some initial notes on the process, just need to fill in some steps and I think we'll be all set!

1) Assess current state. Already completed, Chiefs might play in Brazil, 18th game is dumb.
2) Reach 500 posts in this thread, LFG!
.
.
.
x) NFL announces Chiefs will no longer play in Brazil and no more 18th game.
y) Bearcat becomes even more of a hero than he was before
z) Bearcat retires and has dreams of banning people in retirement.

They will eventually cook the golden goose, IMO. Oversaturation and gambling will be the downfall of the NFL. Perhaps this will make them have all teams take their bye weeks around the same time; really an unfair advantage to have teams take their bye week early and then have them play 3 games on a very short schedule. Yes, they did it on purpose in the hopes of preventing the 3-peat, IMO. The lack of LT did that all by itself, plus the team just looked absolutely gassed.

I enjoy the NFL however during the offseason, I check in periodically for the news. Spring is here and it's time to get outside and change my golf swing for the 25th time.

Call it greed or whatever but in business if you're not growing you're falling behind. All things considered you're actually shrinking so the owners are doing what they think is best for their business to grow it. Can't blame them but you can disapprove on how they're trying to do it. Games where there are no vested fans is just weird. Brazil? Really? Rich ****in' idiots!

Yeah, but that's just the thing. The owners know the easiest way to grow revenues is in the foreign audience. There are vastly more people outside the United States than there are in it. They've barely touched foreign markets and if they start expanding the appeal in those markets, it might grow the values of their franchises exponentially. That's why they stage these games in foreign markets with all the fanfare they can muster. It's good for business.

Not a fan of the Chiefs wanting to play on Christmas every year.

With Thanksgiving it’s always on a Thursday which is now basically a regular game day schedule with TNF.

Christmas games will require crazy schedule set-ups like last year.
