Older dudes, what was it like to be an adult the 80s?

Was it like printing money?

Did you have a Camaro? A van? A Nissan Pulsar?

Did you try the cocaine?

Did you go to US festival?

Other than the Chiefs being in the abyss, what was it like?

Give us all the good stuff.

I'm not 65, but I turned 18 in 1981 so I'll assume I can post. If not, you can downvote me.

My 1980s were apparently not like the 1980s for the rest of you. Honestly, it was a bit of a lost decade, though it built a bit of a good foundation for future success.

The first part of the 1980s involved getting a college degree. That was very useful in the long run, but it wasn't really fun. I went to a mostly-male engineering school, and worse, for financial reasons I went to the school in my hometown and lived with my parents. That was not a recipe for social success. The educational experience was great, but nothing else in my life moved forward.

Then I got out of college and got my first job. The cool part was that it paid pretty well. I moved out of town and got my own apartment and finally started building my life. I wasn't a drinker or a druggie, but I could afford to do the stuff that I liked. I ate well and could start doing some travel. But every time I thought I was moving forward, something out of my control came in and bit me hard. My career went nowhere for a variety of reasons, I had a combination of unpleasant and depressing events on the romantic front, and as the decade came to a close I got swindled out of my life savings by a relative in a very awkward and painful situation.

Yeah, the 1980s could best be described as a learning experience for me. But starting in February of 1990, things turned around dramatically for me, and it's been a good road ever since.

Depending on where you lived softball back then was both fun while being competitive. There were all kinds of leagues for players that just wanted to do it for recreation to those who took it very seriously. There were Industrial Leagues, Church Leagues....the levels were mostly D level for the casual player to the A Level which was filled with mostly ex college and standout HS players. There were leagues with Unlimited HR's and leagues with the 2 HR limit.

There were a lot of traveling leagues and tournaments almost every weekend. Trophies ranged from simple to gaudy....uniforms for the summer were short and sleeveless jerseys....the fall leagues were full on uniforms.

You had both restricted and unrestricted flight softballs..usually by the 4th inning the restricted flight balls were mush...

There were also Fast pitch softball leagues.....

I pretty much lived playing softball during that time...actually kept me in pretty decent shape.

I was pretty good at soft tip darts in the 80's just a couple of years after I started playing i won the qualifying tournament here in Seattle and went to the national championships in Chicago called bullshooter. (I did get a 5th place finish in doubles) My whole short lived dart career was heavily cocaine fueled. I couldn't miss when on the blow. Lots of women too, good times. settled down and got married in 89 and haven't touched the stuff since.

I owned a 1995 Formula that would smoke any of those Trans Ams. And then I owned a Hyundai Genises coupe that would smoke all of them.

Yes. I was the pit reporter most of that time - the guy who knows what the price of the last trade was. An 'investigator' after the market closed, making sure everyone followed the rules. I really enjoyed the gig. They opened a small secondary market and I tried trading for myself. I was no good. I was a really good pit reporter, tho', so I went back to that.
