Is it worth the time and effort to back into a parking spot?

Has this always been a thing? It seems like I've noticed it more and more over the last five to 10 years. Did back up cameras make it more widespread?

I don't seem to remember this practice 25 years ago.

I think it's obvious that traditional park front end, back up to leave saves time.

Is the risk of backing into a car driving by while leaving enough of a concern to start doing this practice?

It takes no more time to back in than it does to back out of a parking spot. For me, it just depends on my mood in the moment

Takes less time for me to back in to a spot than it does to back out of one, because I'm blind backing out for the first 5 or 6 feet so I'm going slow as **** for those feet. Meanwhile, if I'm backing in I know its clear and I'm not taking my sweet ass time.

Backing out of a parking spot is no real difference than backing into a parking spot.

Wrong. Backing in has been proven to be much safer.

I know that to be true. My comment was to him acting like it was difficult to back into a parking spot.

Hell people can't drive down the road or use turn signals. You know they can't parallel park, probably a big selling point for these cars that do for you.

Walking through a parking lot, I'd much prefer people backed into spots, because you get into that awkward spot where someone's been sitting in reverse and you're wondering wtf they're doing as they could have easily backed out, but now you're on top of them and wondering if they're paying attention or can even see you.

My truck doesnt have a backup camera, but I've rented vehicles with them. I dont know how people use those things to do anything else than simple prevention from backing into an object.

I pulled into a hotel at night one time and there was a spot with 3 empty spaces inbetween cars and you couldnt really see the parking lines because they hadnt been painted in a while and the blacktop was wet from rain. Decided it was a good opportunity to check out the whole backup camera thing and backed into the center of that section. Got done and looked out my windows and I could instantly tell when I looked at the cars next to me that I wasn't anywhere near lined up with them. Went right back to using the side mirrors after that.

Even if I had a backup camera I would probably just use it to back up as far as possible in the spot once I've done all the lead up to getting in the spot without it. Also it was kind of nice when I had to back out of spots because you can see cross traffic and pedestrians way easier.
