This reminds me of the Marty era when we had Dave Adolph coordinating the defense. Oh how I hated the way he ran the defense. I was really hoping that he would be fired. Then, he got hired away by the Chargers. Best news that I heard. I have my doubts that Marty would have fired him. I think that was when we hired Gunther. Defense was much better under him.

Great idea! Gunther found out that he was fired by reading on the internet that Vermeil had been hired, so that's a plausible plan.

Not the same for me. We've had lots of consistently terrible coordinators. For me, we had a solid run with Sutton and this year the game passed him by. I don't begrudge him at all if he leaves this year. I don't know where we got the narrative that he's been consistently bad. Until this year, the defense carried an offense that managed games. This year, our offense took us to the playoffs. We just were unlucky that most of the time our defense and offense weren't excellent both at the same time.
