Grilled up some chicken thighs. I'm getting tired of my Traeger. No matter what I do, I can't get any sort of smoke flavor in it. It's only three years old but the day it dies will be a celebration.

It's been crossing my mind to buy a regular smoker.

Nah, I don't know if you're familiar with Alton's 'plan' to smoke on the cheap. But compared to the cost and effort inherent in store bought smokers, it makes a lot of sense.

And when you're not smoking, you can put the pots, the hotplate, the grill [he just uses the grill off a mini charcoal Weber] and the thermometer to their normal uses elsewhere.

I tried to build his trash can smoker about 12 years ago. It was pretty mediocre. Had a difficult time getting temp up, even with a double burner hot plate.
